rain
« on: June 18, 2003, 11:23:24 pm »
I was playing PS and it started to rain. I like the rain and all but it rains to much in it, and it makes me lag. Can you guys stop making it rain so much.

sounds like real life, it rains too much, and i get major physical and mental slowdowns when it does...or i\'m just lazy :P

but i guess it would be better if it didn\'t rain so much, quite laggy indeed :)

Devs are testing the day/night and rain cycle, looking for bugs.
So this cycle is very fast atm, but in the future, it will be something like more than 2 hours for a day/night cycle.

Actually,, I don\'t want to complain but I HATE RAIN!!! But not so much in Planeshift but other when you\'re running with antialias so that the game runs perfectly (not too fast ugly and not too slow) then it starts too rain and you\'ll have to re adjust the grafic values again..
I really don\'t understand why rain is so hard for the computer...

But the rain in planeshift works pretty good.. if a remembered correctly the game has no rain sound,, I hope that will change..
Put the pot down, no dont take another puff!, put it down. Thank you.

the rain is probably eating loads of fillrate, you could try to OC(overclock) the video card\'s RAM to prevent to large a drop in framerate.

PS: It\'s not called lag and i will die a violent death, with like spasms and shit, if you keep referring to low FPS as lag.
Thanks a lot Venge...

Yep, but I tend to use it about all high ping times, weather timed out or not.

/me is ashamed, very ashamed

EDIT: Also, you shouldn\'t talk of lag when dealing with UDP connections, to be very strict about it (but that\'s more than can be expected :p )

well, i may be wrong, but lag can also refer to CPU lag, as in the CPU can\'t keep up to what you are doing.  same with video lag, blah blah...

lag is now used as a universal term for slowdowns, and it\'s such a neat little word too :)  only 3 letters...

uhh, i hope somes of dev team will read this...
But i think that using sprites for rain is not really the best thing to do... Sure i\'m not a develloper, but a thing scared me!!! When you are, for exemple , on the top of the \"saruman\'s\" tower, and you are looking to the base of this tower, the rain appears to be parallel to the ground!!! And it looks really stange :)
but, i\'ll not complain... i really think that you\'re doing a GREAT GREAT work!!! All is beautiful. And except for the rain when we look below, the bugs of textures which make pass behind walls and the lag, the game is really really good... And i take good time when playing !!!!

(i think that everyone has understand that i\'m french!!! (sorry for the errors!))

AFAIK the rain system is already rewritten in the graphic engine (CrystalSpace). It is only that was after the release of MolecularBlue. The next relase of PS surely will use a newer version of CS (with the rewritten rain particle system).

thanks a lot for your answer!!!!
i\'m so impatient to play to the next versions of this excellent game!!!!
And i also noticed that yesterday night, the game was really really fast! Maybe because my msn was closed (for the first time during playing planeshift) ... but it was nicely fast :)
