What will the finished game be like?

I want to know just a few little things:

-How is the combat going to work? Will it be turn based or just run around hitting the attack button, or will there be combos and special moves available, Tekken style?

-If this game is free, what interest do the team have in it? Or will they be making moolah from advertising? (in-game billboards would be kind of cool).

-Will there be other towns, how many quests will there be and will the current town be expanded?

-Will the current version of Planeshift be updated before the final release or will have to make do with bug-riddled molecular blue until the finished game is done?

If someone could just help me out with these that\'d be great.

Since the game is a RPG and not a smash \'em up fighting-game like tekken, I doubt the combat will be anything like it..
The developers could answer for themselves, but I have heard a good many time that this game is free and shall remain so... and btw have you seen any commercials on the site or here?? no...
If you read the info on website about the game, you would know if there is going to be more towns.. as to quests, the game is ever evolving, so my guess is that they will be added regularly, or the players could give them to eachother...
The current version of PS is MB the next is Crystal Blue, and asking about the release date is pointless.. this game is ready for release when it\'s ready...

personally, I\'d like to see some elements of a fighting game implemented into a role player, but not much, enough to put some timing and skill into it. however, this wouldn\'t work well with a MMO because of timing issues, you\'re fight might not syncronise perfectly on your computer  with the one that the monster is fighting on the server, which could lead to you dead, it would be great to see a good real time fighter/role play mesh offline though, maybe an altered fighter combat engine. don\'t know, I\'ll stop rambling now

In Ragnarok online (an extremely limited game) they did have real time fighting. The player had only one move to perform but it seemed to work pretty well, when you weren\'t lagging.

I would like to see something that wouldn\'t just force you into automated fighting.  If something could be incorporated, that would be great!

the problem with non automated real time combat is that when you lag, even just a little bit, you lose the opportunity to defend yourself, which can be devastating to your health, if something could be done about lag, it would be great, but not even high speed internet clears it up completely. My buddies up the street have DSL, and while everything runs better, in some situations, they still sometimes nearly stop altogether, or find themselves far away from where they were intending to go

I\'m with tyger on this one too.. Lag is simply too much of a problem to have real time combat... I have DSL and it lags sometimes when playing anarchy, and if that lag is in combat and the combat wasn\'t automatic then you could be killed by some of the weakest creatures that only take a bit of concentration to kill... so if Real time combat was ever to be implemented, the lag should be eliminated... and that could prove rather difficult :P

what your trying to say is the game servers you guys have been playing on are suck. dsl is obviously fast enough for real time combat, some games just dont have very nice servers...

Yes, DSL is fast enough for it, but what about the people with dial-up modem? Dump them perhaps?

no it\'s not always a problem of either the server or the computer you\'re using or the connection you have

when you are sending information hundreds of miles through a wire, there are lots of places that a small amount of information can get lost or rerouted, things can disrupt your connection to the server anywhere. lag happens. That\'s all there is to it, and no matter how fast your connection is, you\'re going to suffer it once in a while. Now please, off that DSL high horse of yours and come back to earth.

I\'m with Tigerwylde... ok, also because I\'m dialup connected to the Internet. :-)

The main problem isn\'t the technology you are using to access the net, but its own structure. Sometimes the information you are sending must pass through a \'bottleneck\' on the net. Result: you are facing a kind of \'traffic jam\'. ;-)

In my opinion, combat engine should be turn based. A suggestion is the following: when one of the characters attacks the other, the game starts turn based mode for these two players only until the combat is finished (or one of them quits or run away). If a third character joins the combat, turn based mode starts to be used to this third one too.

What do you think about it?

In response to lostprophet\'s 2nd question:
It would be fine if the devs had a contract with i.e. heineken and named some of the in-game beer heineken. ;)
Ofcourse huge billboards wouldn\'t suit this game, but little things like brandnames put in-game would be cool.

You mean like in NWN and Baldurs Gate? That system is called AD&D, or Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Im not sure, but I think that system is copyrighted, am I wrong?

Are you talking about turn based combat like Final Fantasy, where each player takes turns to use items, attack or perform other commands. I think this would work, because I can\'t really imagine platform game style runing around clubbing stuff. I still think that a beat-em-up style like tekken would be kind of cool, because it would add a skill element as well rather than the person with the highest stats winning, because it can get annoying when someone becomes unbeatable because they play 16 hours a day. One game which has the worst kind of combat I\'ve ever seen is Runescape. When you start a fight, you don\'t have any input, you can\'t use items and you can use some spells, you just sit there watching them hit each other like robots.
Thanks for the in-game Heineken idea, I like that better than billboards ;)
