hmm well i get those messeges all the time but the game still loads.  try and just wait for a while without touching anything.  sometimes comps freeze like that for some reason.  it might be lack of memory.  hwo much ram do you have?

Do you use alt+tab? Because if you do, it will freeze.
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

Hello!  This is my first time writing anything.  I get the same error as the one stated above.  I have downloaded everything, and they are the correct size, and I downloaded the reassambler and ran it successfully.

I opened it up and got the same error message as stated above, and went to the same screen with the picture and Molecular Blue logo.  I let it sit for two or more hours.  Nothing happened.  When running Task Manager, it said Planeshift was not responding.

I have Windows NT, and have done everything correctly, as far as I can tell.  I must\'ve done something wrong, though.

This may be stupid to ask, but...What is a graphics card?  What is the correct one to get to run on Windows NT (if it makes any difference), and where can I get one?  I\'m so sorry if I sound naive.  I have been looking for a free MMORPG for so long, and this one is so beautiful.  I may be a rusty old MUDder, but I would love to play this game.

Thank you for any advice you might be able to give!

Excuse me if I sound a little agressive when I ask this, I don\'t mean to at all, but are you serious that you don\'t know what a graphics card is? Have you never heard of Voodoo, NVidia, GeForce...? I don\'t believe you. :)

Well, if you\'re serious, then you need to be brought up to date pronto! A graphics card is a hardware component for your PC which handles heavy graphics and generally most of what is drawn on your screen unless they are specifically software-rendered. (Software rendering is slower as it uses more of your system resources such as RAM memory to compensate. The OpenGL mode of Planeshift forces Hardware acceleration, which is faster, smoother and less of a drag on your system. Also it handles graphics which require certain aspects of the high technology that the graphics card is made to handle- proper, reflective, shiny water, for example.)

All PCs come with a graphics card, unless yours is like +10 years old. In which case, I\'m not suprised PS doesn\'t work for you! ;)

The easiest way to tell which make and model graphics card you have is by searching for information about it in your computer\'s documentation. You can also go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager and look in the \"Sound, Video and Game Controllers\" list. If you have a graphics card and it is installed, it\'s name and model will be listed here.

Seriously, if you don\'t have a graphics card, I doubt you can play Planeshift at all. If you do, find out it\'s make/model and download the latest drivers you can find for it on the Internet. Check the manufacturer\'s website first for this.

Also, I\'d like to ask something in relation to your problem. Are you not able to run the game in both software and OpenGL modes?

*Hopes she was helpful* Awaiting your reply. :)

just incase your not to good with comps here is another way to find out what your gfx card is

Right click on your desktop > Properties > Display > Advance > then it should be somewhere in there

to give you an example of one might look like (like the data) mine is a

ATI Rage Fury 32mb

And im pretty sure you have to have one or else i dont know how you would be able to use ur monitor......

also how much ram do you have? this one is easier to find out.

Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > System

tell us all that is under the word-   Computer:

im not sure if it is the same directions for other OS\'s cuz im using XP , if you cant find what oim talking about go on your desktop, click My Computer , then in there click on control panel, then system.  :)

hope we can find what the problem is for you

Graphic cards have existed long before 10 years ago. Without it u can\'t connect your monitor. 3D Hardware Acceleration on the second hand handels the 3D things.
Just wanted to inform :D

Thank you all so much for your helpfulness!

Like I said before, I used to play MUDs only, and I don\'t have much understanding of computers (well, I usually use a Mac, but my dad lets me use his PC for things like this).

I tried to find the things you all asked me to find, but I could find very few.  Under System there was no Device Manager, and I looked through all of it.  I looked under Control Panel > Devices, but couldn\'t make anything out...

The System we use is Windows NT.  The computer is a Dell DIMENSION XPS T 500
x86 Family 6 Model 7 Stepping 2
AT/AT COMPATIBLE
130,468 KB RAM

(that was the information under System Properties>General)

I hope this means something useful for you...

Again, thank you all so very much for helping me.  I appreciate it a lot and hope to join you on Planeshift soon!  :)
