Crystal Blue Shift
« on: June 28, 2003, 09:42:04 am »
Sooooo... maybe I\'m not paying attention, which is likely the case, but what, if any, is the official word on what happens to everybody\'s accounts when we go to Crystal Blue?

accounts will be deleted, however, there was some talk of some kind of permanent reward for people who spent a lot of time in testing.

however, the devs aren\'t sure it\'s a great idea

Well I think an idea like that only works if they have usage statistics for the characters.  Since really that is the only fair measure of how much someone has been playing the game.  Still tough you could cheat on that front, so maybe it\'s not a good idea.

I do think it would be great if any active guilds got a reward based on their overall standings at the end of MB.

Simply deleting everything that we have worked for is kinda... crappy!
Also, if a total dBase wipe will take place, accounts will have to be reregistered and guilds will have to be reformed!
Would it be possible to \'empty\' characters, that is keep the name and password, but delete the race and stats (maybe keep the inventory  ;) )?

There is a lot of stuff out there to save, but there is also a lot of worthless cruft.  For example when I checked Wednesday there were 423 different guilds registered in MB.  Of course we all know that most of those are dead or useless.

Same with player accounts.

Saving certain people\'s names, etc. who have collected a lot of crystals or who have other items may be possible, but I don\'t want to promise anything.

As long as I have my name I\'ll be happy :) (although my gold falchion and mug would be nice too :P )

Proposal for an Account Transition Page
« Reply #8 on: September 26, 2003, 09:04:08 am »
There\'s a lot to be said for wiping characters. Some people here have 20 characters that they never use, and as Vengeance said, over 400 guilds...lots of cruft that can be removed. Also, character creation will probably do something useful in Crystal Blue (or certainly in future releases), so recreating your character would be useful. Also there will be new races, so people may want to change and end up abandoning their old character anyway.

Still, some people have played for months here, and I\'d like to see them be able to keep things. (Note that I don\'t have a vested interest in seeing a galkard transferred or anything...I have no weapon yet.)  However, transferring items directly may not be feasible since the types of items may change.

So here\'s a thought. For Crystal Blue, why not:
Start with a blank slate for Crystal Blue - no existing accounts transferred. However, put up a page similar to the merchant page now, where you could enter your old Molecular Blue username and password, and your newly created Crystal Blue username and password.

The page would look in your old inventory, and see what your old character had, and provide your new character an appropriate \"bonus\" in Crystal Blue. So if you had a Longsword, you could get a certain amount of money/tria: if you had a Silver Falchion, you would get more tria. (Again, not items since the items available will probably change.)

Once you receive your bonus, your old account is deleted from the molecular blue database. After about a month or some reasonable timeframe, the transition site could be removed along with the Molecular Blue database. This separates the cruft from the new release, and in due time kills it entirely. Yet anyone who is still seriously on board for Planeshift can get a bonus to use toward whatever they want - the ultimate in flexibility.

This idea would require some judgement calls upon how much of a bonus to award on the part of the developers - but in future releases you could potentially use it to correct problems. Say the next release made it too easy for some people to get extremely rich and powerful, by mistake. Then the developers could just adjust the bonus factor for the next release accordingly.

This is a GREAT idea, from Nilaya, of course.

Obviously, most players want to keep sth from the time they spent, and me too. I don\'t know what, probably a mug made with gold and diamonds...

Nilaya says HOW-TO. The idea is an interface between the ancient word and the new one. Concretely an interface between two databases with name and password to join.

What are you thinking about ?

i think it would be cool if weapons are kept/transfered so you can wave them around and show off but they can only be used as a weapon inside of arenas, that way equipee\'s have no real advantage over other players ingame but have something to show for thier hard work

I\'m not even that concerned with weapons being saved. I just want to make sure that Dameon will still be MY character and someone else didn\'t register it before I had a chance to.
