We migrated the Planeshift server today from one rack to another. Unfortunately, due to our impeccable timing, we were not able to do this within our maintenance window. This resulted in a downtime of about half an hour while we physically moved the server from one rack to another, and plugged the network cables in correctly, then thinking it was wrongly plugged, swapped the cables and connected them the wrong way. This resulted in what I would estimate about 2-3 players logging on (as the server was restarted) and getting mysteriously cut off for an additional 5-10 minutes before they finally got online again.
It was only within the last few days that we confirmed details of the server migration, hence it was not possible to determine an exact time at which we would take down the server. I posted the news on the
http://planeshift.fragnetics.com website only yesterday, but the unfortunate thing about it is that the website would go down when the server is taken down anyway... So it wouldn\'t be entirely helpful now would it?
The reason we had to do the migration is because we have installed an additional server for failover and backup purposes. My apologies for not being able to inform the dev team or players earlier regarding this. I\'m pretty sure the backup server would be very useful for the team though
