Speed Bonuses by Running more
« on: July 05, 2003, 05:51:14 am »
this would be a cool idea to be placed in the game, this would make it more realistic as well. You could make it so that the more you run/walk you would gain speed exp. . In real life the more you run the faster you are and the longer you can go. Like say walking could get you 5 speed exp every 1 mile in the game, then running could give you 15 exp for every 2 miles. you get me?

This has been done in the ps2 video game called Grand Theft Auto : Vice City  , in the beginning of the game you could run but only for about 10 secs, near the end after running/walking a lot you gained more endurance and could run for longer times. Other then increasing your speed it could be useful for things like fighting. The more speed you have means the more attacks you can pull off or maybe even dodge the opponents attacks.

Im sry if this has already been said and all but when i searched i found nothing, also i belieive this is a good idea that should be taken under consideration

thanx

well it may sound unrealistic but fatigue - to be tired - would not be good in terms of gameplay : we\'ll have loooong travels so please leave it as is....however, there should be a speed xp to a certain extent, that is for sure ; but with a limit ; lets say that level 20 is the maximum, then you won\'t walk any faster or it\'ll become a bit unrealistic

So you wanna have virtual exercise in the game???

Sorry that sounds a bit odd to me.  And it wouldn\'t be terribly difficult to train in.  Instead perhaps your skill in movement speed would increase based on the % of the world you have traveled on foot.  From a gameplay standpoint that makes a lot more sense to me.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

well, it may be unrealistic to have a superfast runspeed, but unless there\'s a portal system, in most games, it\'s necessary, most worldmaps are huge. In DAoC, they have one set runspeed that never changes unless you sprint or cast a spell on yourself, and then it doesn\'t change much. yet the world is large enough that you HAVE to take a horse to get from one end of a realm to the other in less than a half an hour, and that\'s only a little over three times your own runspeed. In a game like this, a super runspeed is understandable, as it\'s fantasy

however, with this game, the world is set in stages, and I don\'t know how useful a super runspeed will be...

well i mean like the run speed now is pretty slow to begin with, like to just cricle around the town takes about 5 -10 minutes. I think this speed is good for newbies just starting but after a while of running you coul say get around it in like 4-7 minutes.

This would be essental to assassins, scouts, and any other characters that might need more speed.

Also this would be more logical in terms of species. I would think that a cat could run faster then say a dwarf or one of those big rock people. And the big rock poeple being one of the slowest considering it would have high health as well as offensive attacks. Like this could be how they start off at:

In terms of 1 being slowest , 10 being fastest

Enkidukai:   10
Klyros:  9  (Higher  if flying)
Diabloi:   9
Ynnwn:   7
Lemur:   7
Humans:    6
Dwarfs :    4
Krans:   2

p.s. i also like how Wedge explained it, that could be a very good way of doing my idea.
