The game runs in a window or fullscreen using OpenGL or software rendering (customisable in the setup program).

Performance wise, it differs for us all. It doesn\'t seem to matter whether you have a relatively good or poor computer, you either experience choppy gameplay or it runs as smooth as a baby\'s be-hind. It\'s all down to luck, I\'m afraid. :)

In future releases hopefully the code will be improved and these issues will be resolved, but it\'s too early to spend much time messing with, so you\'ll just have to live with it for now.

Check other threads around the forum for technical suggestions if you have any problems, oh and don\'t forget to run the Updater as soon as you\'re finished installing the game!

When you do finally get online, a list of commands can be displayed by typing /help in the chat box. Don\'t be afraid to /shout out any questions you might have, but don\'t expect people to tell you things you should already know! Read through all sections of the Player\'s Guide, and if you\'re still in a fix, then your question will be welcomed and answered.

If you have any problems installing or creating your character/joining online, check some of the sticky threads in Technical Help before posting your problem.

Good luck and hope you have a nice time in Planeshift. :)

As far as I know, you will not need to download OpenGL. It depends on your graphics card and it\'s drivers- it would be a good idea to make sure you\'re all up-to-date with those.

I\'m not much into the technical side of things, but as far as I know, software rendering will work no matter what graphics card you have, as it draws more upon system resources to compensate. Software rendering will be slower than OpenGL mode so I recommend you use the latter unless you encounter problems.

The Updater program will be found in your root PS directory (updater.exe) after you have installed Planeshift.

:)

Yes, OpenGL is hardware rendering. When you install the game there will be two different entries in the start menu, one for software and one for OpenGL, so that\'s how you tell which you\'re running.

Oh, and... the program runs in it\'s own window like other games. :)

Sorry for the long delay there. When you finish downloading all the parts (including run_me_first.bat) place them all in the same directory and run the .bat file. A new exe will be created in the same directory- run this and the game will install.

btw, glad to help. :)

Is this a real time game?
« Reply #8 on: July 13, 2003, 02:48:20 am »
I just wanted to know if we play in real time or frames. The graphics look decent but I am not sure if I have the patience for a MYST like game.

The game runs in real-time so far, although nothing can be said for the combat system yet as it doesn\'t currently exist.
