Chat wish
« on: July 17, 2003, 08:08:04 pm »
Here are some suggestions about chat and please excuse me if they are already in progress or have been posted somewhere else i havent found.
Chat should be opened with \"enter\" text then \"enter\" to close it because as far as I know enter hasnt been used for anything else.

Next i think the different chats should have a better color distinction as it is real hard to see /guild chat in the middle of 100 ppl shouting.
Color suggestions:
/say- Grey
/shout-remain white
/tell- remain yellow
/guild-Light blue
chat with your name in it-purple or pink

They did a color coding system in AC 2, and even thouhg the world was under populated, it still proved incredibly useful, had it all been one color, I would\'ve been constantly scroling to read what I missed, and probably miss more in doing that.  I think it\'s an excvellent idea.

why is AC2 so underpopulated?  I did the trial and it didn\'t seem that bad - but then again I did uninstall it the same day i got it, haha

The chat and other communication systems in the game will eventually have most of everything you asked?if not all.

There is a lot that can be done as well, but we have to remember that many people are color blind so symbols as well as color changes are a good idea.

What I would love to have is a chat system as configurable (or a bit more so) as x-chat.

One channel will be the persons main channel and they can filter that as they wish, but they could also make channels based on filters, so you can have one channel with both normal talk and group talk, but at the same time have only group talk and normal talk on other channels.

You can have all the combat spam go to it?s own channels this way you can see how you do, but split from trying to follow a conversation.

And lastly I would like to be able to have the chat channels be physically moveable, so I can have guild chat one the bottom right and normal chat on the bottom left, group chat in the middle and my combat spam up top.

Now once that is all nice and dandy, that a person based on screen real-estate and  what different people find important, it must also be said that it takes a lot of effort and time to make a truly good GUI system not to mention one that is fully customizable.

But this is all what I would qualify as a vary far off thing, yet one of the things that we will strive for.

paxx, very smart, making it conforable to color-blind people. I would have over looked this, even tho i know people who are color blind.

But i think the windows being movable is not enough. I like to talk and play on and off. so i resize the window. But then there is times where all I want to do is play with out having to move to check and see if im being asked somthing.

cupple suggestions.
1. make an option for when u drag a box to the side (id say left) of the screen/window it becomes a tab. click on the tab, the window comes up. (then probly have a little button in the corner of the window to put it back)

2. when your name is said, or some 1 tells you somthing, have the tab blink yellow. This way you only hear messages directed at you.

God Bless,
