we should have a gopher race that digs everywhere and messes up peoples yards.  then people would be all, \"darn you gopher race! stop messin up our yards!\"  Then the developers would say, \"a gopher race just isnt Planeshift\" and they\'d remove it like they removed that werewolf race they never had.

acually instead of new races we need to just refine the current ones - the devs have always said that Planeshift will be a unique and original experience but at the moment the typical rpg caracteclases: dwarves, elves, etc etc... need to be looked into and changed...  some non humanoid races would be nice

IMHO when I log on to a fantasy RPG I expect to see elves, dwarfs, orcs and humans.

I liked the two dwarf classes, but I was not impressed with the elf classes.  You should have high elves, and wood elves, and dark elves.  I realize it is not original, but they are expected now.

Please change the names as well.  I sound geeky enough now when I tell people that I play MMRPGs.  If I tell people I play a demorian (SP?) on Planeshift they will think I am some kind of devil worshiper.

If you want to make the game original.  Include classes like Orcs, Centars, Treeants, or gosts.  Werewolves would also be good.  Mole men might be good too.

Heck, forget race all together as a class.  Just let people pick and choose diferent skin colors, eyes, ears, body sizes, hair, and faces.  You could make your avtar look like what ever mythological creature you wanted.

Well that is my two cents worth

First, of all there wouldn\'t be many wood elves seeing as their are no woods...I think it has something to do with being....underground and all.

Second, why should the names of the races be changed just so you don\'t sound like an idiot?  If it\'s that important to you don\'t tell people.

Third, do you know what it would take in order to allow players to edit what their character looks like?  It would either be very primitive, (ie. just editing colors, etc.) or it would end up taking forever to code.

Only n00bs don't quote themselves...

How does it concern us that people think you are a geek?? And what on earth is wrong with worshipping the devil?? :P

It all depends on how you worship the devil. my wifes step father put needles through her breasts as a means of contacting the dark one. this was when she was a teenage girl...
we are the music-makers, we are the dreamers of dreams - Gene Wilder as willy wonka

Johnny Depp\'s a poser to the throne. No one will ever play the part as well as Gene Wilder

Re: Aender
It would be too difficult, have you taken a look at the current skins for races? Sure they would need to change around a bit of programing, and trow the plot right out the window, but it could be done for anouther game.
Hey, I thought  Iwas a wood elf! I better check that race list again....

Re: Xalthar
Why\'d you have to open that can of worms? :P

well.. If people are really stupid enough to get agitated about such, by all means, let them!

I\'ll just sit back and defend my point of view. But hopefully this forum hasn\'t got anyone too entagled by religious views upon the world..

Gee those houses seem awfully wooden though ;).  We are underground but there is still sunlight from the crystal and a self-contained eco-system, plants DO grow, I mean there are trees in the town after all.

Klyros, Enkidukai, Kran, Ynwnn, and Diaboli all aren\'t exactly human looking...  If you mean something other than bipeds with two arms, that is a no-go, coz\' they would have to have their own unique equipment type.  The Klyros are the farthest off and their wings restrict them to light armour types.  And I\'m guessing the environment interaction code for all races is going to stay virtually the same (maybe let the dwarves into those low caves without ducking though :) ).  And about werewolves, it\'s from a diseas called lycanthropy, which is theoretically something a player could be infected with, and they transform at nightime.  Only some races could get it though... but it would be cool if Enkidukai were one, Weretigers!
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

hmm I think its kind of late to ask the dev\'s to change their whole backstory and all just to keep you from looking geeky. Myself I love to be termed geeky.   I consider the term Geek to be a badge of honor.

I think, Derwoodly, that could be possibly the worst idea ever on this forum. :-)

Congratulations. :-)

Seriously, if anything we will take more familarity out of the races, not put more in.

oh dear god... how did i miss THAT post!  I\'m afraid you just don\'t understand tyhe concept of originality derwoodly... there is absolutely nothing original about those creatures.  You are asking us to make Planeshift unoriginal... and as for no races at all - that would slaughter an entire level of gameplay in one quick blow
