Hey don\'t doubt I still liked Havena\'s... it just came off a bit too much like a Lord of the Rings rip-off to me, which ain\'t really a bad thing, but eh, yeah...
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

Yes, it did have a Lord of the Rings feel to it.
One particular line, ?Of that which I had nine, this now holds one.? somehow sounded very \'Tolkien\' to me.

Well you aren\'t supposed to count Havena\'s whole story, just the preview. And based on that, sorry Hav, but I had to go for Ayshe\'s here

Actually the whole story at the weblink is my entry. I said the thing about comparing the preview to 300-word ones, not Moogie.

Well, I\'m very flattered that you compare this to Tolkeins writings.. considering I haven\'t actually read the Lord of the Rings myself.

Well now I know why I haven\'t seen you in ages Havena.
Yes I did read through them all and I did read them with an unbiased mind (sorry but just because I love ya doesn\'t mean I\'d tell you it was good if it sucked)
I did vote for your story because I honestly do feel that it was the one that gave me a visual impression the most and made it \"feel\" real.
Next time you write a Dragon into a story though - Please don\'t kill him off so quickly.  Perhaps it\'s just been so overdone but if you\'re gonna have a Dragon that inspires fear it seems such a waste to bump him off with such ease.

I posted the link to an IRC channel of draconic enthusiasts for a wider selection of internationally gathered people to read if they so chose.  They don\'t know you at all so they\'ll simply vote it as they see it.  Mind you, they may get a tad upset that you killed off the Dragon.

As for the LOTR type comparisons - Personally I just think it\'s the use of the Orcs which conjurs up that thought.  I don\'t see that as a bad thing at all.  When you wrote of the \"Dogs\" my first impression was the ugly looking savage dogs used in the film \"Willow\" and yet that\'s where it ended.  Your style of writing isn\'t comparitive to Tolkein much at all in fact.  Take that as a compliment - I loved the movies but reading the books isn\'t exactly an easy read.

No, that\'s one of the things that\'s really only important to the rest of the story. I\'ll probably write a new chapter (or more) this weekend. MOstly because I\'m very curious as to what\'s to happen. This first chapter turned out totally different than I had imagined. The idea that the strength you have in magic is based mostly on the way you perceive your power in your mind, opened up a whole new train of thought. This will make the final battle a lot more interesting.

He was a nasty, horrible, arrogant dragon; as portrayed  :P

Sorry about killing him, Dragon lovers ;] , this particular Dragon you wouldn\'t have gotten along with anyway ;)

One can only do so much with a each character in a short story involving many. Part of what made it so nice - was that we had such deep-set characters to work with from the beginning, because they\'re real people. You guys.

w00t, go Havena, nice story! Am I the only one who gets the impression that my story is a little...short, or maybe unfinished?
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

Yeah I don\'t mean the writing style was like Tolkien, I mean the whole massive battle felt very much like LotR.  And yes especially the Orcs... really mostly since I don\'t recall them existing in Planeshift, which isn\'t to say they won\'t... and really I think it\'s kinda sad if they do end up in the game since they aren\'t being counted as a race it would seem, which really isn\'t fair.

Aside from the elvish songs I don\'t see what is so hard about uncomparably detailed and lush descriptions of the world... meh but you\'re right a lot of people do get turned off by that.

Oh yeah, and is the main character just someone fictional you made up for the story Hav?  Coz\' everyone else is an actual player in the game.

Dayvin is a hypothetical character supposed to have entered the game in the future and risen up to become the strongest character known in the game.

I\'d say that\'s a yes.

From the reader\'s-info on Havena\'s story:
I\'ve taken liberties in inventing some monsters and other creatures, because few monsters are confirmed for future releases of PlaneShift.

Yes, there\'s no confirmation of Orcs in PlaneShift yet. I felt there was no race which is more potentially evenly matched as enemy troops in a battle.

As far as being a massive battle with vivid descripitons etc., there are some elements in fanstasy writing which are simply universal, otherwise fantasy writing would be difficult to define.

I also like Zaphar\'s Entry.  I\'m surprised it hasn\'t received any votes.  I think the competition might be fixed. ;)

Ayshe\'s Entry was a fascinating concept and well written, but I got bored about a quarter of the way through and skipped it.  If this story were a movie, it would have faded into a flashback to keep me interested...

Why thanks abemore! I appreciate the vote of confidence. I do think I could have done some more work for the names in the story. But time was pressing.

maybe I will polish it up a bit sometime when I get the time to do so.

I myself voted for Ayshe\'s story I didn\'t get bored at all myself reading it.

I think, after Havena wins the contest, we should all give some rubies to the other contestants for writing such good stories.

Would the contestants be so kind as to post their in-game names?
