Hey im downloading the client now, me and my mate hae been lookin for a decent free/cheap mmorpg and found this, we are both 56k i was just wondering what the gameplay is like for 56kers, i.e how smooth the game is and if you get big lag spikes, thanks in advance :)

Yes, you can play on 56k, since this game takes up little bandwidth. Although, you will experience lag, just like everyone else does, since this is pre-alpha, a tech-demo. The code is rather \'dirty\', and is not optimized. :)

im sure ive posted this somewhere before...
Playing PS on 56k is possible, and even though i live in the middle of nowhere i get sweet ping, \'cept theres some nasty lag when i look at things like towers.
But as Caldazar said, apparently the codes a bit hectic so im sure that\'ll all be fixed in due course.

Lag = Latency = Sloppy connection between your computer and the server.

Therefor, Lag is not = Sloppy performance by your computer. :)

You can play lag-free on a 28.8kb modem, as long as your computer has a connection to the server without any latency (which is hardly possible with any dial-up modem), and if your computer is strong enough to run the crunchy game code.

So it\'s not allways possible your 56k modem isn\'t the cause for lag, even though the game uses only 1-2 kb/s., but I would say it\'s mainly \"your\" computers that are too slow (because mine is just soooo fast, you know). :)

Yes, there lag spikes occassionally.  (everybody on at the time gets it at once)  Oh, and Gronomist, PS has a nasty tendency to lag-err.. slow to a crawl, fast computers.

Exactly most lag is caused by the game attempting to render all the graphics. Thats why your framerate drops when you look at towers or large sections of the town at once. This will improve as the rendering code is cleaned up.
