I'm so close!!! Syupid .png
« on: August 06, 2003, 03:48:55 pm »
Today I managed to get the splash screen up, (believe me thats an accomplishment sonsidering where I was at yesterday) and now I think I can narrow it down to one problem. Whenever I try to load a .png file I get a line like this:

crystalspace.awsprefs: Could not load image \'/aws/close.png\'. Unknown format or wrong extension!

I am also missing these librarys wheich I\'m sure contribute to the problem:

They are all related, what should I do to recover them? I know I have libpng isntalled, not sure about the latest version though.

Oh one more thing I know this has been solved before but the link on how to fix it was dead:
planeshift.application.client: 0.97 rdev [Unix-x86-GCC]
crystalspace.font.freefont2: Could not open fontfile /fonts/ttf/arial.ttf!

is there a quick fix for that?
After I installed from CVS I dont see an updater. DO I just update from CVS from now on?

Thank you!

Usually installing CS using configure and not jam fixes the png problem.

Ok I did configure and make -k all
Now the game runs. There are still some errors on startup, but I could care less, as long as it works right?
I have one question though, there is no updater in my planeshift directory. Do I always have to update through CVS? That would be a pin, instead, is it possible to copy the updater script from the binary installation to my planeshift from CVS directory and use it? The only reason I could see this not working is if the updater depends on other librarys. Is this true or is it just a script? I\'d like to know because i recently fell through the map and /spawn woulden\'t work, people said to use the updater. I kinda want my old character back...

If you built from linux, there is no update to do.

We are not updating the MB release anymore.

So your saying I cant keep updating my current version? I thought once I had this, I could keep running the updater to get newer versions, maybe even for a couple of years (ok maybe not a couple of years, but a long time anyway) so what your saying is the next version that comes out I have to erase my current and download the next? Thats kind of time consuming?

You don\'t have to play it then. :-)

Everything is changing, so the updater wouldn\'t help save you anything anyway.
