On jobs and killing.
« on: August 13, 2003, 08:33:44 pm »
The big thing for this game is obviously jobs, professions. I was told that there will be actually hunting though. What im wondering is, how will you be able to get XP? or... \'skill points\' rather. Will you HAVE to have a job, or will you HAVE to hunt, or will there be a mix?

I kind of enjoy hunting in a group alittle more then sitting down and combining items and such for a profession all day. Also... raiding is great, we gotta have some real nice raid zones... ill come up with an idea for one and post it under that locations post.

Its true that PS isn\'t Diablo but i think there shoul be some combat in any mmporpg cuz if there was not any hunting and fighting in the game what will all those stats and spells do in the game and how we would raise our strenght and magic
Little angel, go away...
Come again some other day...
Devil has my ear today...
I\'ll never hear a word you say...
He Promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind...
Whatever. just as long as I don\'t feel so desperate and ravenous.

Those who want to be profecient in fighting will fight, those who just want to own a tavern will just sit around and drink booze all day!

well yes talking bout being \"a not diablo game\" , I really hope you will be able to progress and enjoy the game as much as fighters ; there HAS to be a broad gameplay

Why not have knighthood as a profession? That would be a good idea for the people who want to fight. Send them off to the Stone Labyrinths. And Tada! They get the fighting they wished for
The body is but a vessel for the soul,
A puppet which bends to the soul\'s tyranny.
And lo, the body is not eternal,
For it must feed on the flesh of others,
Lest it return to the dust whence it came.
Therefore must the soul
Decieve, despise, and murder men.

honestly i would rather have fighting as a main theme, with jobs and professions as something else to do that you can advance in. I dont know how exciting it will be for me to own an building, and just sit there and make stuff... if i wanted to... i could get a job like that in RL. I hope they put in many a combat zone, because i dont know how many other people will get into this... \'mainly job\' idea

There will be plenty for everyone Dann... the devs can\'t just make crafting and \'miscellaneous\' skills second rate to fighting -> this is a roleplaying game - you should be happy that they even have fighting

This is way off base.  One of the things people role-play about is fighting against incredible odds and winning.  To take on the role of a warrior doesn\'t mean smithing armor it means using weapons to kill something.  The fighting system is just as critical as any other.

Dann...start reading before you post.

There will be plenty of fighting for people who think like you, and plenty options...such as player held tournaments, and many other things.  If your looking for something specific (That is not free range pking) get details and post them in the wish list.  Otherwise there isn\'t really anything to talk about is there?

Fighting will be in the next version, and most professions probably will not...doesn\'t seem like their forgetting about it to me.

I understand what you are saying Fish - and you are right to Planeshift fighting will be a critical componeent as well - but in RPGs fighting isnt allways critical - I have played many a Pencial and Paper game where fighting was rarely (if ever) that important

Edit: and pencial and paper games are the best examples of RPGs to date :P
