« on: August 14, 2003, 12:16:29 pm »
Hi, Ive got that thing where the client says loading world or what-not and then vanishes...I waited hours and hours but it never came back up and when I tried again I got the same problem.  Also, I dont see it running under processes in taskmgr after it vanishes.  Help please? =(

I\'m guessing you are running some version of Windows....  have you looked in these forums for possible solutions to your problem, or going to give some more detailed specifications as to what your computer has (CPU, RAM, OS, etc.) or are you hoping we all will play the guessing game.  Sounds like something is causing planeshift to just drop out (crash), however more info will be needed.  Unfortunately, the concept that \"all PC\'s are the same\" is really very inaccurate - different hardware/OS Platforms and other factors make your computer rather unique, and will (as planeshift is pre-alpha) possibly require a unique solution, or at least a bone needs to be thrown to the developers to help track down and weed out your problem.

564 Mhz
192 MB of RAM
And I connect through a Comcast Cable Modem, pretty fast I\'d say.

Well your specs are kinda low. I\'d say the slow processor is a GOOD thing for PlaneShift, as for some reason it tends to struggle with the more up-to-date PCs, but you may need to consider buying some more sticks of RAM. 512mb or higher is ideal and these days it\'s as cheap as dirt to buy.

Also, you will need a 3D card to play PlaneShift in OpenGL mode. Please tell us what 3D graphics card your computer has, if any.

no, RAM is kinda cheap these days.

As for finding out what video card you have i\'ll assume you have Windows XP, if not you can say so.

1. right click on My Computer on the desktop.
2. select Properties in the menu that appears.
3. In the new menu that appears select Hardware in the top row.
4. here select device manager (somewhere in the middle)
5. in the new window that opens click the + sign next to video adapter (or something along that line). Here you can see what video card you have installed.

That\'s onboard graphics, right...? (Not asking anybody in particular- just trying to learn :)).

If it is, I think I can safely assume it isn\'t very good.

ok dude ur cpmp sucks.  spend 50 bucks get a gf2 at least maybe a few sticks of ram for $9 each.  pop em in then get a new comp...  i found it needs at least one gig processor to load but the ultra power 3 gig ones don\'t work often.

Yeah that\'s onboard.

Intel released their 810e boards without an AGP-slot however, realizing this was not good they shortly after released their 815e with AGP.

So if you wanna get a video card you would have to go for a PCI one, which is ofcourse slower and not recommendable.

If it was my pc I\'d throw it away and buy myself something decent, but not everyone has that much cash or is willing to spend it on a pc.
