mmorpg report
« on: August 15, 2003, 02:19:52 am »
hello, my name is pete mitchell, and i am currently attending ITT technical institute. i am doing a research report involving online gaming, more specifically, mmorpg\'s. i am also very new to the world of mmorpg\'s. if possible, could i request info on the various aspects of these games. i.e. how they operate, servers used, marketplace, types, protocols, etc. this would be very helpful, thank you.

Heya Pete. Much as I hate to sound unwelcoming, I\'m not so sure we can do your homework. The MMPORG concept and architecture is probably very well documented. Requsting the info on Planeshift might not be the best thing though, sicne it\'s still in development even though one would assume that the basics are set in stone.

Might I suggest instead looking up projects such as Everquest, Ultima online or ATITD. These games have been around a while, are complete and have an excellent player base.

Good luck

there are many companies being formed at the moment to \'teach\' people how to create mmorpgs... you might want to try one of them

If you search on Gamasutra they had a post mortem on Dark Age of Camelot.  It it an interesting read about the overview of the project and what when right and what went wrong.

If you have any specific questions about the technical aspects of how PlaneShift works I will be happy to answer those.
