PlaneShift will be always be a free game.  The catch is that since we all work on it in our spare time then progress often comes in spurts so you have to be patient ( but most people are :) )

Now this all sounds nice in theory, but how will you get a decent server for free?  I understand it\'s easy to write free software, but there isn\'t such a thing as free hardware or free bandwidth, or am I wrong?

The reason I mention this is because I just downloaded the game and the lag was really terrible.  I can imagine this will only get worse as more and more people play this game.

But otherwise: a very promising game!

The server is sponsored by fragnetics. The server is excellent, and if the game lags its your computer/the client/the code that\'s not optimized.
Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

The server itself might not be the problem, but the connection to the server.  I tried pinging the server planeshift.fragnetics.com, and it gave a packet loss of 60%, so it\'s really a miracle it even works.

By the way, is there an in-game way of viewing connection stats, like there is for framerate?  This might give some more accurate values.
