Evanchild, for all the time you spend on these boards and in irc, you sure don\'t know much about the PS Setting...

I suggest you read the website.

yeah... why do you people think that the surface is the \'final destination\'?  Have any of you ever speculated as to why the game is called Planeshift?

The surface is the place we\'re all trying to get to...For  now. So I am in partial agreement with Drillxer that it is not the Final Destination. IThe way I view it, is that i is merely a crossroads to several \'Final Destination.\'

Those final destinations, as Drillxer hinted about, would be other planes, worlds, and perhaps dimensions. However, right now we\'re all trying to get to the surface, colonize it (Is that possible? Is it allowed?), and then go on taking over the world and then go on to toher worlds and so on.

You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

I\'m guessing that sounds like a totally ridiculous notion from a developer\'s standpoint.  I think Yllakium is much larger than you are giving it credit for and there will be no need for making any other regions, including the surface.  Unless you wanna make em\' yourself.

yeah - I think we will be busy with Yliakum itself for a LONG time before anyone really NEEDS anything else... fortunately ffor the devs

Maybe each level would have lots of quests to do, but when you finished all these (or all the important ones that would push the storyline forward) you could start the uber-quest which when finished would allow you access to the next level. The quest would be less about your stats than it would be a bout skill and problem solving, although later levels could have you fighting dragons or something. This way, people could feel proud that they had gotten somewhere in the game, and people could see you were a devoted player because you were on a high level. Also, PS veterans could retreat to higher levels to escape pesky newbies.

So whaddya think?

I have no idea what you just said Evanchild, but yes Lost Prophet that is the kind of thing I am thinking of with this.

lostprophet, wedge: I do not think this game will be linear... meaning that you follow a certain path from point A to point B questwise/skillwise/levelwise... anything... as an mmorpg it has to be detailed and open enough to keep people playing forever...

It will still be open ended, but I think that some kind of level system would solve a lot of quibbles, especially people finding noobs annoying. I personally think newbies add to games, but there you go. It would just give people a sense of achievement.

Of course, there would be like fifty quests on each level, but about a third of them would be related to progressing in the game.

having storylines that are constantly updated would take alot of work - but would make for a better game I admit... if done well

anyways that wont happen for a long time in development and would require a task force of devs... which we dont have really

I wasn\'t actually thinking about storylines, but that would be pretty cool. If the world wasn\'t static, like if new weapons were invented and new areas opened up and the balance of power was shifted every so often, that make the game a lot more engaging.

I\'m sure those things will happen... but adding and altering major storylines takes alot more work - in my opinion
