Grakrim's Ultimate Philanthropy Contest!
« on: August 22, 2003, 12:16:47 am »
Due to boredom and the (possibly) approaching release of CB, I am announcing Grakrim\'s Ultimate Philanthropy Contest (Hereby The GUPC)!  Starting immediately until September 23th 12:00 AM EST players are encouraged to behave nicely to each other and be charitable.  The most charitable activity will be rewarded with EVERY crystal I collect from this point forward until the release of CB.

Reporting yourself is considered in bad taste, but is acceptable.

To report charitable activity, PM me on these boards, or give me a tell in-game.

I (Grakrim) retain the right of disqualifing players from the GUPC at my discretion.  I also retain the right to modify the rules at my will (however, rule changes shall be posted here.)  If I recieve too many nominations, or find an obvious winner, I also retain the right to end the contest early.

I wonder how fun it would look if when CB arrives, a complete DB wipe was to be made... So much for charity then! :D

Great idea, looking forward to seeing all the happy helpful faces ingame (however forced ;)).

Hehe, jk, people are always happy and helpful. I think this is going to be a difficult competition to judge, so good luck to you and everyone who takes part. :)

Of course, I know this.  That\'s why the contest ends long before the (scheduled) release of CB.  It should give plenty of time for the winner to enjoy their reward before they lose it all.

Mainly, I started this contest so my crytsals woudn\'t go to waste, because the only weapon that has any appeal to me whatsoever is the galkard (and there\'s no way I\'m going to get enough crystsals for that).

Actually, those people with a history of charity will have a slight advantage, as I\'m not going to consider ANY nomination that I believe was simply for the sake of the contest.  So true, I know this is going to be amazingly difficult to judge, and it will take some investigation work on my part to find the validity of each report...  Bah, work.

Also, I\'m accepting donations to go to the winner of the GUPC. However, be warned, donating WILL disqualify you from winning the prize (so as to avoid conflicts of interest).

This reminds me of a story in the Donald Duck. Where Donald was a cab-driver and he and his colleagues were really mean to the passengers.
So the mayor organized a competition, the nicest cabdriver would get a vacation to Hawaii.
Donald almost won the competition but then he screwed up. His last passenger before the election was the mayor\'s wife, and she wanted to stop at every shop to buy some things. This took so long that Donald would miss the election and the prize. So he lost self-control and raced through the city.

Let\'s just say that in the end the competition was cancelled due to lack of suitable candidates and the mayor took his wife to Hawaii.
And the cab-drivers continued being mean to the passengers as they always had done before.

lol, who would of thought Donald Duck could be so deep and insightful. Aesop would of been proud of that one, not least because Donald Duck is animal, like all of his other protagonists in The Beast Fables.

well... we could all contribute so that someone could get a galkard, just for that purpose. but then if we wanted just anyone to have a galkard just for the hell of it, Kada could buy two (26,233 rubies?, i think), swallowman(!) could also buy two (22,690) and Havena could get one (18930).

but anyway, if we wanted the winner of this contest to get one, I\'d give my (puny) stash of gems also.

Some people (for one reason or another) hate the galkard, so, if anything, instead of buying the winner a galkard, we would just give them the crystals.

I don\'t know why you think there is no way you can get a Galkard, if you actually really wanted to try that is (I\'ve gotten 3/4 of the value in a month or two, and I mean just semi-regular hunting over that time).  And people don\'t like it coz\' it\'s ugly, hella ugly.  And shouldn\'t this thread just be reserved for people to report someone actually?  And did you get this idea from the current donations going on?  And... nope nothing else.

Well, one thing people who play with me know, I have terrible luck with the crystal hunt, terrible, terrible luck... And I think the galkard is the best looking weapon in the game, at least in my opinion.

Err, I don\'t entirely follow what you\'re saying... But if I understand correctly, no, I don\'t see the point of people needlessly spamming this thread with reports (they\'re of no concern to anyone but the me and the reported, after all).  I actually don\'t expect a flood of reports, simply because I\'m not advertising the contest much in-game (as newbs aren\'t my target audience, and most newbs don\'t visit these forums).

No, I think all these \"donations\" are all poor excuses for begging, other than a few of the funds I\'ve seen floating around.  This idea mainly came from me wanting to give my crystals to someone, and, due to my somewhat charitable nature, this reward is a natural avenue...

what? I don\'t understand, the point of this is to give away your crystals to a charitable person right?

so that would more than likely be the people who are currently (or have) holding contests...which means they were probably giving all their crystals away, and since they are giving them away they really don\'t mean much to them.

Am I wrong/understanding this wrong? I just know personally, since I\'m having a contest on The BISM boards (although no one is entering...) all my stuff might be gone eventually until CB, so it wouldn\'t really matter to me (not that it is not a good idea...).
