Connection problems
« on: August 28, 2003, 05:06:41 pm »
I\'ve tried multiple times to connect to Planeshift, but every time I finish making a character and the game begins loading, as soon as it says \'loading world\' the program stops responding/loading the game. I can\'t post on Bugs forum for some reason, so I put it here. (My computer meets all the requirments to play Planeshift by the way)

Any ideas? Could this be my computer or a bug?

How long have you left it at the loading world stage?

It takes a long time for the game to load the first time, for me it was about 15-20 mins but I\'ve heard of some PC\'s taking upto an hour. Whilst it is doing this don\'t try doing anything else or its likely your system will crash and it may seem as though its locked up but it hasn\'t. Each time I load the game now the sound cuts out and it seems to freeze for a minute or two then the game starts.

Also the reason you cant post in bugs is that thread has been locked which is mentioned in one of the top threads and how to report bugs is also explained.

I left it for about 10 mins. I opened up my task manager and it showed very little CPU usage after the loading window went non-responsive, suggesting that it froze (loading tends to take alot of CPU usage unless I am very computer illiterate).

Try leaving it longer, just start it loading then wander off and do something else for a bit. If its still not loaded after an hour or so you\'ve got a problem, also the client does seem to sit there a long time doing nothing for a long time the first time the load because apparently its something to do with a load of graphics card settings being altered.

Every time I leave it for about 10 mins (three times in total now) I come back and I have a message box that says \'psclient.exe has encountered some problems and is forced to shut down\'. Again this is happening when the loading window is at the \'loading world...\' stage. Any ideas? By the way, I found out the characters im trying to create do get created (I can log in with them), but it still freezes in the loading window.

Edit: P.S. If I take longer than 5 mins creating my character/logging in, I get a \'link dead\' message

What OS are you using?

If its Windows 98,ME or 2000 try Ctr,Alt,Del out of all other programs except Explorer and Systray and then load PS, as for linkdead see the sticky thread about it. If this doesn\'t work I dont know what to suggest.

I\'m currently using Windows XP, and shuting down all other processes doesn\'t seem to help. I think I should just wait until this game hits beta stage, so there will be a chance that the bug (if it is a bug) gets fixed.
