monthly quests and events
« on: August 31, 2003, 02:31:44 am »
The other MMORPG I am playing right now is asheron\'s call 2. There each month they add a new quest with specific rewards, monsters, etc. and sometimes events happen about which the players have no idea untill the event happens. For example one event was that a Dominion creature captured an enemy kingdom mine. All Dominion players recieved a message that they must defend it for a period of time, the kingdom that lost the mine had to recover it and the 3rd kingdom had to try and capture the mine for itself. This is indeed a feature that can be added only when the game is mostly complited, but it will keep the game interesting.

Well natural disasters will be interesting but sudden monster appearing could get the players to work together. Now alright maybe i am wrong but this thing really impressed me in ac2. You can\'t imagine how enemies join forces to get rid of a bigger danger.

the gnomes are a peaceful defenseful thingie.  nothing dare attack a 4ft dude witha  pig pointy red hat :)

but how realistic is a huge momster \"appearing\" maybe there could be a few dangerous areas were monsters are there more often than others so u can avoid them but just randomly appearing spiking his huge fist up ur bum with no warning... fun.

shut it Evanchild :P

I was also impressed by that shadowrunner, when I played AC2... but you are right.  We will not have the ability or the manpower to really take advantage of such a system until the framework of the game has been layed

Just imagine, Yliakum being invaded by an army of evil Something-or-others.  The guilds stop their petty squabbles and unite to save the caverns...

That would be incredibly cool.   :D

That\'s exactly what I mean. And Evachild got a point there. The mobs should appear out of nowhere. For example:

An earthquake happens and due to this there is a huge opening in the ground. From there appears a biig bad mob. The players must unite to save a city or loose it like in ac2. And if they loose it they can later combine forces to clear the zone and rebuild it.

That sounds really cool. I don\'t think they should be warned by a pop-up message though, but npc\'s should start running about screaming about monsters coming form the volcano or whatever. Also, it would give players a chance to show off their skills, like archers could take down mobs from afar while champions go up close and impress the virtual ladies.
