problem setting up game...
« on: September 01, 2003, 01:45:42 pm »
Ok, when I first tried running Open_me_first.bat, it didn\'t work. Only on the second try, it did. Then, when it created Planeshift.exe, and I ran it, I got this error:

\"Installer Corrupted or Incomplete

This Could be the result of a failed download or corruption from virus.

If desperate, try /NCRC command line switch (NOT recommended).\"

That\'s the error I got, and my system stats are:

Compaq Presario
WinXP, Home Edition
2.6 ghz
512 mb, Celeron Processor

I\'d like any and all the help I can get.

Thanks,

Zake

This is the third time I\'ve seen people ask for help with this problem in two days!

Please, please, please apply some brainpower and read the error message. If it says \"could be the result of a failed download or corruption\", doesn\'t something inside say \"well maybe I should download it again then\"?

Sorry for sounding aggressive, but it just astonishes me why nobody seems to understand. I\'m not having a go at you... just realise that it\'s frustrating to answer such obvious questions. :P

If you have any more real problems, post back here and we\'ll do our best to solve them.

Honestly Moogie, i\'ve seen dumber questions in my time as a sys/network admin.

Maybe it is obvious to you and many others, but not everyone understands these things.

I\'ve had a hard time once explaining someone that Save in Word means that your document will be saved to your computer.

I know, it\'s a real shame...

Jeez. You gotta pity them really. In this day and age you don\'t expect people to be so ignorant to the basics of computer technology, older generations excluded of course.

LOL, u should see what we learn in school. People have to be taught how to save files on disc, and that\'s about as complex as we go. (this is 15 year olds)

I feel rather dumb...I figured out what was wrong: I didn\'t completely download several files.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

The problem still exists, even after I downloaded everything again. I redownloaded run me first, but there\'s still the same old problem.

The weird thing is that file 4 is 11 megs, yet it says on the download page it\'s 20 megs, yet I full downloaded the file, according to the download client.

Somehow that file is being cached on your computer and you arn\'t actually redownloading it- just pulling it back up from some obscure temp folder. Try using a different download manager and downloading the file to a different location.
