Need feed!!
« on: September 03, 2003, 08:37:15 pm »
I would like to have hunger in the game..
And the ability to cook, just like in Arx Fatalis.
U mix water and flur U get a doug, put it near a fire a while and U get bread..
Put a fresh fish near fire and u get a cooked fish..
If U kill an animal U can butsh it and cook it if U like, if U have resources..
Somthing like that..

And if U get to hungry U get weaker and slower, until U eat..

What do U think??

It\'s a nice idea to make the game more realistic, but for people who like exploring more than fighting monsters, it would be hard to come across food. Chopping and cooking animals would be a good idea to restore health, but not if you would die without it.

I disagree, people could run restaurants. Buy food from monster killers, hire some NPC cooks (if possible, else cook it yourself) and sell it to the wary explorers passing by.

did someone say fish? :)

Well in my opinion it would be pretty realistic but I personaly would not like to have it because it could get annoying when you are off in a far away place fighting things and all of a sudden you get tired because you need to eat.

If it was put into place, which many people would be against, it would have to be very gradual, and you would only start getting tired once the hunger bar was half way down.

OK let?s connect the dots on this one.  It is already been stated that they?re going to have fishing.  At one point they asked for recipes for food.  Either people are making a lot of products with no actual use or the developers are going to install hunger as a mechanism for selling it.

My guess is hunger is a foregone conclusion.
Doing things just for the halibut.

Sounds like thirst could be another possibility as well then. It\'s really not that annoying anyway, just adds more to the game.

This has already been discussed, and I\'m quite adamant that I believe there won\'t be a \"hunger\" meter in the game, but food will simply restore the stamina statistic.  As the stat wears down you lose effectiveness in combat and other skills.  Actions deplete the stamina meter, although I imagine just walking around will have a nominal if any effect on this statistic.

I\'m still positive there should be an hunger-meter.
If you get hungry in town, then go to a restaurant, eat some food and meet some pals.
I mean, what\'s the taverns for?
If you\'re wandering, then bring food with you.

Too poor to buy food? Beg for money.

Simple as that.

*shudders* I never hope I\'ll have to sink that low :P I hate it when people beg for money in other mmorpg\'s... makes me want to slap them...! especially if they are newbs :P

But I think I remember a discussion like this before, and it was concluded that no \"hunger\" should be put ingame, rather the food should provide some minor bonuses, or recuperative functions.. (correct me if I\'m wrong)

I like the idea of a stamina bar. Maybe there could be a lot of farms around, so you could kill some easy chickens. Also, this was how run?scape solved the problem of macro\'ing (people using programs to do something over and over while they were at work, so they could get home and have lvl 200 mining)

This is the second time I\'ve seen someone mention Arx Fatalis, so I had a look at their website and watched their trailer, and it looks pretty good.

I still vote hunger out.  Hunger is tedious in life, and it should be left out of a game where having fun is important.  Remember, a good life simulation game is like life with the boring parts removed.  And PS is a life simulation game.

The stamina bar is not my idea, it\'s on the website, it will exist in the game, it might even be one of those meters in the upper right corner.  And that is the only logical use for food if food is to be differentiated from other healing items that restore damage to your character.  If you read how the stamina meter works, this makes total sense, and there is absolutely no need whatsoever to add a hunger meter.
