In sync with reality?
« on: September 06, 2003, 12:23:53 am »
If planeshift has weather, will it have seasons? And will the in game seasons correspond with the real world?
Of course that would be weird for people on opposite sides of the world...

Well I\'m assuming that underground we wont have seasons. But it\'d be cool for the surface to have them.

Well given\' that the outside world affects day/night in the underground, I suppose it makes sense the orbital location of the world would change the seasons, since the amount of sun drawn into the crystal would change based on the surface seasons.  At least I imagine that\'s how the crystal would work.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

I have a few questions on this one.  How does the top side world affect the bottom world?

  1.  Would the receiver part of the Crystal have to be in a desert?
  2.  If it is a cloudy day top side and dreary down below would it freak people out?  Would it make the NPCs edgy?  Would they flocked to their local religious institution for guidance?
    3.  Has the receiver part of the Crystal ever gotten dirty?  Has somebody had to have a quest to use the magical squeegee and mystical 409 to clean it?  Maybe at some point it has to have been dug back out.
  4.  It is also possible that the top part is in a massive pillar on the top of a tall mountain?
 5.  When somebody finally gets to the top will they find a group of religious fanatics who maintain the Crystal?  Will they kill on-site anybody who approaches it?
 6.  What latitude is the Crystal at?  How many degrees is the planet tilted to the sun?  If it?s on the equator light versus dark won\'t very much.  If the planet has the same tilt is the Earth and the top side crystal receptors are in the temperate zone seasonal changes would be easy to detect.
  7.  How big is the top side receptor part of the Crystal?  My guess is it would have to be absolutely huge. Several square kilometers.  Maybe even the size of Iceland.

I don\'t think anyone\'s ever really thought about stuff like that, it was really just a complicated excuse for day and night underground, but here goes:

1. I don\'t understand what you mean. Why would it have to be in a desert?
2. It rains every five minutes for five minutes in ps, so the locals are probably used to bad weather (presumably yliakum is loosely based on medieval england, the only place I can think of where it rains that much).
3. I presume rain washes the dirt off it.
4. It\'s just the other side of the crystal.
5. Maybe. I\'m getting bored now.
6. Presumably the ps world is, like most other rpgs, based on earth.
7. Well, the crystal would have to be pretty big to light up such a large area, so the other side would be just as - no wait - bigger!

By the way, georgeD, I like the sig. Is that a pratchett quote?
