re: license agreement

This is my first post so please don\'t jump on me too bad :)

I come from the game of Dark Age of Camelot.  I think this plane shift is a super good idea.

A big point of contention in the DAOC community is that the powers that be don\'t always listen to the players.  For instance, some people want berserkers to do more damage but the dev team says they won\'t do it.

Since planeshift is open source that means it gives a lot of power to the players to jump in and fix bugs and make tweaks.  This is great!

However, the one problem I see is that since the graphics are not open source this prevents someone from making a \"mod server\".

Is the PS community OK with this?  It may not even really be an issue because you can\'t exactly host a MMORPG on a cable modem.  All in all I think is a great and refreshing development.

I dont think many people would want to make a mod server anyways, I mean a mod server of a mmorpg just seems pointless to me, bar nwn not even seen any...

If ur not gonna bother to change the models and artwork then all ull be tweeking is strengths, fightings and writing ur own quests, the fighting is just for power gamers and if the quests are actually any good, send them to the dev team they may consider using them.

ohnonononono. a mod server would destroy the game, think of all the suprises some places and \"levels\" will give you in the real server, but a modserver would destroy that experience if one server would have a hack that made you fly throught the entire map and stuff.
Put the pot down, no dont take another puff!, put it down. Thank you.

it\'s not uninteresting but where I understand ppl wants to make mod to commercial games, I don\'t understand why they want to work aside from a free game, working with its community.

Why making a mod server?? try to help on te basic game.
And I think it\'s better for the player that some control is made on the game, because we want to bring a great experience, can\'t be done without some guiding/surprise.

A mod server would have to be illegal due to the copy-protected art.
Thus players are left with making entirely different games using the PS source code.
And I think the PS community is fine with this.

It is a lot like parents and children.  Sometimes the kid wants a candy bar and the parents won\'t give it to them.  That doesn\'t mean the parents aren\'t listening--they simply don\'t agree that it is in the child\'s best interest to have one at that time.  Or maybe the child is demanding a swimming pool and the parents simply cannot provide one--that still doesn\'t mean they aren\'t listening.

DAOC and PS devs are alike in this respect.  I\'m sure they listen to their fans like we do, but that doesn\'t mean they agree with everything fans want, nor does it mean they are capable of producing everything they hear and agree with.

If you want to improve the game, join the team.
