a guide npc???
« on: September 06, 2003, 08:49:31 pm »
i dont know if this was mentioned yet but:

I think there should be a guide npc in the game near the spawn point that auto talks to first time joiners. It would have all the FAQS that are on the web page so people dont have to answer the same questions all the time(it gets very frustrating) it should tell you what you can and cannot do and how to do it. Even though it says it all on the web page probly about 80% of the newbs dont read it.

then we\'d be getting, \'wheres the guide npc?\'
\'Howd i speak to the guide npc?\'
etc...

but new people wont read the guide and i doubt they ever will untill people go through the frustration of answering questions over and over and they already know everything by then and just look at the guid curiously. Trust me all the regulars in ps like me hears the same questions at least 14 times a day like ......

How do you crouch?
How do you open Doors?
How do you get out of Town?
Where do you buy weapons? or Where is the Blacksmith?
How do you change the view?
How do you greet people?
and trust me many more ...................

thats why we should have mentors. when you log in for the first time you choose a mentor (somebody who signed up to be a mentor and is logged in) and it takes tou to that person.  then the mentor teaches u stuff and when you finish you get rank from newcomer to citizen or something.

that sounds like a good idea evanchild but what will the mentors get out of it because teaching stuff like that takes time and is boring but i do like the idea

Either there is an obstacle course of sorts that must be completed before you can play the game, which teaches you all the basics, or evanchild\'s rank system where you are only recognised as a citizen and can only take quests from official people once you\'ve finished talking to the npc guide.

We have talked about doing the obstacle course/guide npc thing and want to do it, but it is a lot of work to implement so don\'t hold your breath. :-)
