Loading World.... Or not?
« on: September 11, 2003, 08:00:52 pm »
Well, I have read all the posts and I see some people are having problems similar to mine, but anyway, I have defeated the linkdead error, now here\'s another little obsticle. My Specs come first so here:

OS: Win XP Pro + SP1
Processor: Intel Celeron 701Mhz (Try not to laugh U.U)
Memory: 128mb of puny SDRAM (I will upgrade to 256 ASAP)
GFX Card: NVIDA TNT 2: 32mb
Page File: Somewhere between 512mb and 2gb.... Enough. ~,~

My problem is, the client hangs at Loading World...
I can wait for a whole night to no avail. But the first time I tried it, it was up and running in an hour and a half but(A but U.U) It froze.... Now I get A or B, usually A.

A. It hangs at the Loading World Screen but uses 98% of my memory while Hanging.

B. It kicks me out, either timing out or saying I am already connected.... Which I\'m not....

I use \"Hangs\" \"Hung\" \"Froze\" all to mean that it takes over three hours, After which I end task.

I have an ADSL 512kb/s connection. I hope one of you techie-types can at least tell me how to speed up the loading time or how to fix my problem. I suppose if you can\'t solve this, I\'ll have to wait to try next version. Oh well... Peace out...

I\'m guessing the long load times are caused by your amount of ram... That\'s just not enough for mmorpg\'ing...

I can only tell you one thing that might help. In the B case, you may be getting the \"you are already logged in\" message if you\'re trying to log in too quickly after a crash/linkdead client exit. Ideally you should leave a gap of at least 30 seconds to avoid this.

Good luck. :)

Ah, Mogura, I have been reading your posts, you look like a very well orginised person, Nice to meet you *shakes hand* :)

As for my problem, Thanks for that small piece of info Mog, so no more \"Already Logged In\" errors, Plus thanks for that Xal, Do you think 256mb would do any better? I\'ll upgrade ASAP. As for Kel, I will go try that now and edit my post accordingly.

[Edit: Oh well, didn\'t help :P I think it is memory.... I\'ll double it when I get some spare change!*Dives between sofa coushions(sp?)*]

Not sure.. I get lag sometimes too, and I\'ve got 256mb of highspeed ram.. (I\'m upgrading to 1024 in a couple of months) So perhaps you should get 512 instead? ;)

I\'m not sure if I can... I can\'t find sticks of over 128 in shops (I use PC100) I\'ll have a look though, but this is only a Beta-Dev right now so it\'s unlikely that even 500tb of ram would stomp out the lag 100% :P

Oh, pc100... You can get 512 blocks, look for them at websites, I\'ve found some on a danish... It\'s pricy though.. I\'d recommend getting some highspeed Kingston ram.

[edit] yup, you\'re right.. most mmorpg\'s run smoothly on 256 megs (just not PS yet :P), but still, the more ram the better ;)

I\'ve only got 128Mb SDRAM at the moment and the game is playable as long as I avoid looking at the Temple or Plaza (even then I can usually escape in about a min) usually by strafing past them whilst looking the other way. The game plays excellent in the dungeon (except around the bottom of the exit stairs where it slows a bit, changing world zone maybe?) and away from the doors in the Tavern when theres lots of people in there.

As for loading times, it normally takes 5mins although some days every now and then it just crashes over and again.
I have returned!!
