...more problems installing
« on: September 15, 2003, 04:44:23 am »
ok, I got the whole thing downloaded, including the reassembler. I reassembled. I go to start the game, here\'s what comes up:

Installer corrupted or incomplete.

This could be the result of a failed download or corruption from a virus.

If desperate, try the /NCRC command line switch (NOT recommended)

Do I have to re download? or is something wrong with my computer that wont let me play this game?

Well, who knows if you\'re able to play the game, you havn\'t even installed it yet. ;)

Here\'s my advice. Firstly, delete the .exe file and recompile the .part files again. If this new .exe file still gives you this error, delete both it and the .bat file and download the .bat file again (make sure it properly downloads, not just copies from a temp folder). If, after compiling again, you STILL receive the error, one or more of your .part files are corrupt.

In this case, go to the downloads page and get the MD5 file signature checker to see which ones and download them again.

Yes, definetly check file sizes. It took me several attempts to get the completed files because  many of the mirrors will just cut off the connection without an error and you think you have a completed download. Also make sure you save all the files into one location incl. the bat file. If it STILL fails, you may want to see if someone would be nice enough to somehow give you a compiled build. I do have an FTP server setup and would be willing to host the file so you can download it, but only if you are able to d/l @ 128+kbps. But try Monkuga\'s suggestion above before bugging me for my IP. :)

Ah that\'s a no go... 3.47 kbps. My computer\'s a dinosaur, and I actually use one of those \"modem\" thingies.

well, actually... what the heck is MD5 file signature checker? I\'m not sure if I have it.

another edit... I tried that \"look\" thing and found the download on the site. :)

one final question... how do you use this signature checker?

Monkuga!?  8o

Tapobu: The signature checker looks at your .part files and gives you a string of text depending on the data that is stored in the file. If that string is the same as the ones we have recorded from the complete files, then that file is not corrupt and should work.

I\'m afraid I can\'t tell you how to use it as I\'ve never needed to myself... but I\'m sure it\'s simple enough to work out.

As for the problem with redownloading, if it\'s that much of a problem then you can use a download manager such as GetRight, or even find the parts on a P2P application like KaZaA.

This is where gentoo rules. We download programs from gentoo servers (350 kbs = sweet). No errors :D.
You have to run Linux/gentoo to be able to do this:).

On your first connection it can take anywhere up to 1 and a half hours to log in. This happens because Planeshift must recalculate it\'s light settings and files to your machine before you enter.

All times you log in after that, it shouldn\'t take more than 1 or 2 minutes.
