is there anyway that it would be possible to incorporate msn messemger or aol instant messenger etc in game? there could be some sort of sponsorship or whatever to sort the legal issues and it would also be good as you get people who use these messenger systems  while playing game but if you have full screen on it can be quite annoying to mess around with buttons to check up on messages and stuff.

then don\'t play in fullscreen..

Really, I don\'t see the need for this.

I like this idea, because many people prefer to play full screen but it\'s really annoying when the sound keeps popping up every few seconds, and a little box jumps up and down in the corner. Msn integration would work well in my opinion, as long as there was a seperate chat box for msn.

What\'s next? Built in e-mail? Perhaps a browser? No wait! A built in spreadsheet so that people can work while playing!

See where I\'m heading? Including MSN-support is not a good idea. Plugin-support, on the other hand, might be an idea.

And, while I\'m at it. Why, of all free alternatives, MSN?

IMHO, having a way to run PlaneShift in windowed-mode, without titlebar and borders, might be the best idea. This way, the people that want to run other stuff at the same time, can do this.

While I see some use for this, ?messenger support? it is not in the plans and can be done simply by not playing full screen?if it is ever implemented, it will be way after the full version is out. Unless someone makes an integration with gaim.

And there is no way in hell that I see us using passport.net integration for the game.

Supporting all the instant messengers out there is and would be a full time job, as they change very often. We would have to rely on others.

In short, this is very much on of those?if you want it, make an official proposal, and then make it happen cause I doubt we will. Specially any time soon

And don\'t forget about licenses and copyrights. No way I want to see PlaneShift cooperate with Microsoft or AOL.

or kopete, licq, whatever :D

[sarcasm]
why don\'t we just implement a whole OS, together with a skinned and redone open-office? ...oooh, oooh!!! and blender!!! i\'d just love to run blender in PS!!! ...and screensavers!!! can\'t live without screensavers!!!
[/sarcasm]

but seriously, i think the idea doesn\'t fit into neither the idea of games, or PS itself ...not to forget mixing the RP and IRL elements ...i\'m 100% against it!!

but AFAIR the devs did promise a very improved communications system in PS ...with \"channels\" (like: friends, close firends, all, group, etc) and tab-autocompletion for commands and names. also i remember the idea of a switch to turn on/off shouting ...if these ideas get into PS, then i think we\'ll have one of the very best MMO* communication systems :D

If u hate having the bleeping of mssges while u\'r playing then just logout of the messenger. I see no need for this at all.

Msn? I\'m sorry, but are you okie? I thought there was a little chat window already there, excuse me if I am mistaken, but that\'s a little redundant, and uneccesary.

If you like your MSN too much to let it bother your planeshift experience, then you must choose! MSN or Planeshift.

I really have never heard that problem before, because like many of us, I neglect the rest of the world to play ps.  =P Sorry if i offended, didnt mean no bad karm.
