What to mine?
« on: September 25, 2003, 12:58:01 am »
We can all with awareness assume there is mining. So the important thing is what can we mine? Anyone have any idea on mythical or materials that can be mined? Or maybe you want to make up your own material that can be mined, be creative, post here.!

Suggested Layout:
Material Name: (Material Name)

Description: (Physical Description)

Rarity: (How rare is this material?)

Type: (Is this material synthetically made by combining
more than one type of material together or can it be mined straight from the mines? Use Synthetic or Pure as an answer, if synthetic state the materials needed for creation of this material.)

Usefulness: (What is this material used for?)

My idea:
Material Name: Kuipilite

Description:

Rarity: Uncommon

Type: Pure

Usefulness: This material if it were in the game would be used for light armours. This metal would be very lightweight, stronger than leather but weaker than iron.

you should also state that metals like:
Copper
Tin
-Bronze
Coal
Iron
-Steel
Mithril
Adamantium
Gold
Silver

are the most used metals in RPGs and MMO\'s so they really shouldn\'t be stated here. :P

*cough* now for my metal:
Material Name: Zurack (zur-hak)

Description: Yellow-Gold crystals that grow in a chaotic fashion (when found) that are 3-sided. A central peice of Zurack spawns more Zurack around it, in its chaotic net. When you mine it and you find a small protion of it, you should follow the seam ALWAYS to the end, because at the end is the original peice. However, no one has ever reached that original peice as the seams seem to begin from the time of creation; seams can last thousands of years and never get any bigger. Professional miners of the metal go insane, as the seam just seems to keep going and never getting any bigger.

Rarity: Common, though not i[n] great amount. Gets dropped by some monsters.

Type: Pure.

Usefulness: If consumed in any amount the creature whom eats it will die in 24 hours, however, durring that time he does not feel pain. If made into a armor it will give a generous boost to one\'s health, strength, and stamina. in a properly constructed peice of armor it will block all pain from that portion of the body. however, over use can cause dependancy problems and instantanious fatality should the player wear and then remove the suit after 2 days (real-time) Used in a weapon it will not let the wound inflicted close for some time; though magic negates the bleeding a scar is still there metally. the next and more powerful blow will cause more trauma until it becomes lethal.

----
Basically a fighter\'s best armor/weapon for times when strength and power are needed. however, if the player wears it for too long he will \"need\" it later on like a addiction. eventually the character must wear it continuously else die. however, a NPC mage is able to cure you but at the cost of the armor and a large amount of moolah. :P

takes a LONG time (16 real-time hours) to gather enough Zurack to make even a short sword; chain mail will cost you a lot of cash. Zurack could also be used in a quest... The NPC mage that\'ll cure you if you get the Zurack addiction will need some Zurack from you and some time (4-8 game hours depending on how much you gave him) and then will be able to cure you. the first time is free, though, the next time it\'ll hurt your wallet, BAD. 8)

[selling Zurack within many cities walls are considered a crime, so sell it outside the walls or go somewhere else! monsters who are also addicted will gladly kill you to knaw or eat on your beutiful Zurack armor or peices...]

Hmmm... mining was the least fun of all the activities in the rpgs I played. I\'d like for there to be some kind of gameplay twist to it...

Perhaps if the caves were filled with aggresive monsters that forced lone miners to have bodyguards while they mine for crystals.

The better the crystals\' value, the more perilous the packs of monsters.

This would provide a nice way for small parties to gain wealth... A miner would share a bit of the loot for the price of someone watching his/her back.

The frequency on oncoming monsters should be frequent enough to force miners to switch their pick to a weapon instead if they have no bodyguards.

what about rare magic draining or reflecting ore? Heavy and hard to shape but good vs mages.

Hmm... I wonder how much a blacksmith should work before he could make high-level armours...
It sure would be one of the hardest jobs in the game: first of all, you\'d have to have people who would gather ore for the blacksmith, then that blacksmith would have to pay those miners for their ore. And in the beginning, he\'d only be able to create the weaker armours.

Would be a tough job.
But the rewards might be worth it :)

Hmmm

The hard work system would be great and in the high levels ... you could get a spellcaster to help to enchant the armor. Enchanted armors would be very rare and wanted. It would be nicer than the basic system like in NWN ... \"Ohh i got scales of truth +3 and im lvl 2\"

Hmm...I was under the impression that the Azure Sun adversely affected most metals (stunting the technological growth of the people of Yliakum.)

Anyway, here\'s my (rather grotesque) mineral:

Name: Corpsidite

Description: A hard, durable, pale, and slightly transparent crystal.  The coloring is based on the pigmentation of the material used in its creation.

Rarity: Extremely rare, most people do not venture so near the crystal.  Also, due to the amount of crystal produced per material kilogram/hour, its very difficult to acquire.

Type: Naturally Occuring Synthetic (contradiction!), produced when organic material comes too near to the Azure Sun.  Only trace amounts of Corpsidite are produced for each kilogram of material and for each hour that the material is exposed to the Azure radiation.

Usefulness: Corpsidite is the most durable known material, but due to its extreme rarity, its very impractical to produce anything from Corpsidite.  Corpsidite is poisonous if consumed or if it enters the blood stream, even in the most trace amounts.  Corpsidite also has the strange effects of blocking the Azure Sun\'s radiation and disrupting magic (making it easily detectable.)

Maybe this rock could be an event  :D

Like it\'s dropped in the mines... The person who mines it, is recalled to town, and everyone tries to kill this person  :D Mass carnage!
