Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire. And not to be forgotten, A Link to the past.

I\'ve killed him a couple of times. You need the Underwater materia to stop the 30 minute countdown, a few W-Summons for Knights of the Round, Quad summon with Neo Bahamut, Final Attack paired with Phoenix is always a good idea aswell. Once you know the attack patterns you can plan ahead... just make sure you have very high level characters and materia and you\'ll be okay.

I think it also depends a bit on luck... I beat Emerald twice, and the second time was alot harder as he seemed to use Air Tam more often.

(Note: The more materia you have equipped on a character, the more damage Air Tam Attack will do to him/her. So say you have 6 equipped: you\'ll receive 6666 damage.)

I can\'t wait to see this movie! Think the secret characters will be there? They wern\'t in the game FMVs, which was disappointing... but understandable. I\'d love to see Vincent with his claw and cape leaping around slashing at monsters and blowing their heads off with a Peacemaker. :)

*cough* lame! *cough*

I agree with both you and Wedge: FF isn\'t good if you look at it like a RPG (which its not.)  Console RPGs are usually dumbed down (in terms of interface and mechanics) when compared to their P&P and Computer counterparts.  This is mainly due to the slightly less hardcore audience of console players and the much less sophisticated input devices used (as opposed to a massive keyboard and mouse, which is also a reason console FPSs suck).  As those of you with both a computer and a console probably know, some games work better on consoles and some work better on computers.

Now, did I enjoy FF7? Definatly, its a good game, just not a good RPG.

P.S.: What does RWG stand for? Role Working Game?

look! final fantasy is all about computer geeks sitting in darkened rooms for hours on end, and if u cant see that xalthar then ull never understand. Carrying swords 4 times your size is part of the enjoyment, the combat wasnt great, but ive seen far worse, specially as at the time many rpgs were still pixelling in battles. Im not a \'huge\' fan of the other ff, but FF7 deserves recognition for being atmospheric and stylishm, and i cannot be arsed to argue anymore because ive had a long day and i dont give a rats ass about anyone elses opinions.

Ct was ok, was too straight forward, i spent most of the time thinkin hurry up, but ya BoF ruled! =)

I don\'t see why the term \'RPG\' has to mean the Pen & Paper type. There\'s lots of different types of RPG. Final Fantasy is one type, Warcraft 3 is another.

Just because Pen & Paper RPGs came first, doesn\'t mean all other types of RPG suck.

At least, that\'s my opinion. :P

Well, you do have a point there. But all games could be labeled as a RPG.  I mean, if you\'re playing Mario, you\'re playing the role of the short plumber in his quest to save the princess.  So we have to define some boundries.  Further more, many people divide the similar, nearly unrelated RPG genres; there are Action RPGs (Zelda), Console RPGs (FF), CRPGs (NWN, Baulder\'s Gate), etc, etc.

As anyone here played Angband? That\'s a real RPG... even if the graphics are a bit poor... and it is quite unfinishable without cheating (can\'t save and after 25 play hours, i was only at half of the game)

Warcraft III a rpg? What about tuxracer? No seriously that\'s not because heroes can pick up scrolls and cast spell that the gamr is a rpg

I you look at it that way, all games are Rpg\'s... if you play a shoot\'em up game, you take on the role as the gun-wielding maniac that mutilates everything that moves..
if you play a strategy-game you take on the roll of commander, and do what the commander is supposed to do..

But by the term Rpg is meant something other than what FF mainly consists of.. if you don\'t know what Rpg\'s are, try searching the web, or look here

Angband... That\'s similar to Nethack, right? I\'ve never played Angband myself, but Nethack is good.

Another thing that\'s always confused me about FF is why \"sequels\" aren\'t related to each other in any way... With the exception of the \"Biggs and Wedge\" connection and the repeated appearance of the Moglie, of course.  Same way with Zelda, although they are starting to connect the series, based on the storyline of Windwaker.

You do have to admit, though, materia was an interesting addition the combat system in FF7; much better than FFX\'s sphere grid.  I hope that they revive the system in future FFs.  Anyway, with all the new sequels coming out (FFX-2 and FFVII-2) I\'m hoping for FFV-2, I wants me some jobs! (which may be the sole reason I get FFXI, if I decide to get it at all)

Wheter or not you like FF, you should definatly read 8-bit Theatre, a sprite comic based on the original Final Fantasy.  Its hilarious!
