New Website for PlaneShift Community
« on: October 10, 2003, 05:00:50 am »
I\'ve been in a lot of communities that involved MMORPGs, but this game stands out from all the rest of them. I would like to start up a website to build up a strong community for PlaneShift and attract more visitors to the main site. I\'m open for any names to the site and ideas that could be implemented. I also have a webhost and a domain in mind for the site. Any ideas? Post them here.

Plus I designed the top banner with a temporary name to see what you all think. I didn\'t have time to upload it yet. I might post it later.

Sounds fun with some competition for when I get back full-time. :)

Edit: Btw, I\'m no good with names, so sorry.

Hiya,

Here\'s a few suggestions for areas you could add to the website.

  • Screenshots: The standard screenie page where people can get a taste of what the game currently looks like.
  • Fanart: Section where people can submit their artwork; banners, portraits, monsters etc. The art would be posted up here for everyone to see.
  • Stories: Stories from the Roleplaying section of the forums, with permission from the authors, listed and linked here.
  • Game Guides: Guides for newbies, maps, customisation, technical tips and the like.
  • Guild list: Listing all the major guilds of the game. Should probably have a set of requirements so that only guilds who will be around more than a week will be listed. Don\'t wanna have to update this area daily, do you?
  • Links... of course: Guild links, fansite links, server links and the official website.

I can think of no more right now. But that *points up* is the basics of what I\'d expect from a wannabe popular fansite.

no no no!

You have to be different to be the most popular site!  There are already so many sites that have that same sort of stuff, you need to stand out!  Come up with a good original idea for your site, otherwise I bet most people here would see little reason to view it instead of the others.

Well here is my idea for the layout. There is going to be a top banner for the layout with various things coming out of it. It isn\'t all the way finished but I\'ll give you guys a preview later. Below the banner is the links (right under it, sorta looking like it\'s attached to it.) and the links branch out to drop down menus to where you can access different parts of the site. :) I also have some more little ideas, such as clan forums, help sections, and more (sorta like these). Maybe I\'ll think of some ways to provide more information about the game than this site already does. And maybe more. Maybe I\'ll make an Experience Calculator when the next version comes out.

Hehe...the link I put up and checked looked like poo. Once I get a verified name I\'ll make a domain. ;) Hmm...I wonder if PlaneShift would ever get modded?

Well, here\'s some other suggestions, although these obviously will have to wait untill Crystal Blue and beyond.

Monster locations- Perhaps a map with spawning areas highlighted.

Monster information (Beastiary)- Monster levels, HP/MP, strengths, weaknesses, treasures, xp, etc.

Rare Item Index- Listing rare items and where they\'re found/how to craft them.

Alchemist\'s Formulaes- List of potions and the ingredients needed to create them.

Smithing Techniques- Same as above, only, for Smithing.

In general I want to create a ToolKit type of thing. Experience calculators, beastiary, and other such things. I also want to give quest guides but they wouldn\'t be recommended to use because it would kind of spoil the fun.

Main players list would be cool.
Profiles for all the active players of planeshift, with char info, contact and a pic. Something like that for a planeshift website, although will probably take a lot of work, will definately get u noticed =)

Moogie, shouldn\'t much of the information you list in your last post be discouraged from being included in general fansites, to encourage player discovery and the teaching of techniques through guilds and communities, rather than being able to get all the info you need from a fansite?

Hey good point... I was trying to think of original ideas and completely ignored morals. :D

True, things like that should probably be left for player discovery. It\'s different for offline games where people need resources like that if they can\'t find any friends who play the same game. In MMORPGs though, the lack of public knowledge like quest solutions, guides etc should encourage teamwork and making friends.

So ya... ignore my list, hehe. What else would you put on a website and be original, though...? I can\'t think of anything that hasn\'t already been done by every guild site there ever was. With the game in such early stages of development there\'s almost nothing to make a website about anyway.

You have to be an imaginative person to come up with something original...
