More than one way to go after a horde of treasure.
« on: October 12, 2003, 09:56:15 pm »
The classic way is to kill all the monsters and split up the money.  Boring!

The thieving way.
There are several ways and I can see thieves getting in there and stealing the treasure.  There?s the solo method or you sneak in and help yourself.  Dangerous but highly profitable.  Then there?s the idea of getting your buddies to keep the monsters busy while you steal it.  Essentially make them mad, draw them away from the treasure and then steal it.  It?s probably a little safer and you might make more money but you have to split it up more ways.

The magic way.
Is almost too many fun ways to do this.  One is to morph yourself into the monsters, walk up to the treasure and take it.  This way would have more than one pitfall that should be doable.  Another possibility is to go in invisible to get around the first of the guards.  Once you get to the hoard of treasure you magically seal off the place and help yourself in gate out of their.

Your new way.
Come up with a great new way to get a horde of treasure.  It should not involve killing all the monsters, maybe just a few of them though.  And get out with the loot in one piece.
Doing things just for the halibut.

Well, perhaps you could \"snipe\" them out with a crossbow.  If it was located in open air you could do that then land, take it, and fly away.  (Assuming you had stuff to do so.)

Perhaps you can pretend to join the enemy side, and then decide to steal the treasure. At a risk at being caught, of course, but there is always the chance of doing it again. I\'m  not sure if this is possible, but it would be interesting. And pretending to join it may bring other advantages as well.

Solving puzzles, riddles, and doing odd things such as capturing flying purple hippos (not original anymore) to get the treasure.
You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

The alchemist\'s way:

Almost too easy; make a sleeping gas potion, throw it at the guards, then when they\'re all snoozing you walk in and take the treasure  :D

The weapon smithy way:
Forge a ubber strong and VERY big sword, then swing it like a mad man, if the enemies don\'t run of fear, they will be dead lol =)

That\'s a very good idea, Fish. For playing Morrowind I created a thief character and expected that it will allow me to solve the quests in a more subtle way. It helped in certain situations but once I entered a dungeon with narrow corridors teeming with enemies, I had to fight like a madman anyway. So perhaps there could be some alternative way in Planeshift. Perhaps the design of the dungeons could enable to choose a path that suits your character best. There might be some corridors around the most dangerous areas, not full of monsters but traps. So a warrior would have to go the way with monsters (unless he\'s pretty good at disarming traps), while thief would be able to sneak around all those monsters, providing he\'s good enough to pass the traps. Or perhaps the alternative way wouldn\'t be visible (hidden behind a rock) unless you are good at finding such ways. Something like \"finding-an-alternative-way skill\".
I want to be a thief in Planeshift.
In Morrowind I ended up being a thief who\'s using Magebane (or whatever it\'s called) instead of a dagger, but perhaps I was just doing something wrong...

Pickpocketing is good.

There\'s also the option of specializing in lockpicking. This allows you to open dungeon chests or locked dungeon doors.

All of these examples assume that are piles of Triads just laying arround in a locked room like a bank.  In most Muds and MMORPGs the bank is untouchable, and the treasure is carried on mobs.

Think about it. If a 900 pound Troll has more treasure than he can carry he will use it to buy a ring of power. If the Troll has a ring of power then it should be on his hand! not in a pile on the floor.

Having said that, it would make sense that if a giant spider were to exist it would have a pile of drained corpses arround its nest and there could be some very nice treasure on them.  Especially since most of the corpses are of thieves!!! :P

Assasins way: Sneak up kill a bad guy with ur knife(cut his throat btw) make sure u dont get blood on the clothers then sneak in dress as the dude u just killed.  This is assuming that those baddies wear clothes and are the same race as u or multiraced.

Or take out ur double crossbow kill two of the ppl take out ur throwing daggers and kill a few others.  THen walk in carefully with ur daggers out.

Why not do it the old fashioned way? Pull out the loaded dice, play a few games. Win the treasure and be done with it.

Magic:
Call a familiar, have it prance in and put the treasure in its mouth and run out.

Charm the biggest baddie in the group, and throw his voice so it sounds like he says \"I\'m going to check on the treasure.\" Have him smuggle it out a little at a time until there is no more.

The treasure is not in a pile! The treasure is not in a pile!
The treasure is...

Oh nevermind.

The Die hard way... Threaten the townsfolk with magic bombs planted in all of the mage schools then when all of the guards are at the schools drive into the bank with several hay waggons and make off with all the gold in Fort Knox err, the kingdom.

My way: use you sexy no jutsu ( naruto ) to change in a beautifull women with no to much clothes so the guards will be knocked down by the beauty and it\'s free play for all you can walk in and since you look so damn beautifull nobody will actually try to steal it from you ( i really hope i can do that ingame :P )
