There could be a rather extensive (and automatic) naming database for weapons built-in to the game itself, for example:
Zakynthos strolls over to the local blacksmith guild hall and purchases a Steel Short Sword.
-- When you examine the sword, I\'m not sure how the planned system would work but, lets say its something like this --
Weapon name: A Steel Short Sword
Weapon type: (Give away in this case) Sword
Weapon Myth: This is just a plain everyday weapon.
Weapon [whatever other statistics are displayed]
-- The weapon myth would be in essence the weapons \'experience.\' For instance:
Zakynthos heads over to the Troll Marsh to begin training, during his tiring adventure he slays over one hundred trolls! His weapon becomes permanently stained with troll blood.
Weapon name: A Steel Short Sword Named \'TrollBane\'
Weapon type: Sword
Weapon Myth: This sword is etched with troll blood. It is clear that many of these beasts have been felled to this blade.
-- There could be special attributes that come along with these unique names, but it could just be for fun, but as an example, once your weapon becomes a TrollBane, you could have 20% increased physical damage against Troll races when you hit them with the sword --
-- Uh oh, what if I don\'t want my fancy spectacular Trollbane anymore, and I want a different name. --
Naturally the name shouldn\'t be able to evolve for multiple things, example:
A Steel Short Sword Named \'Greater Slayer of TrollBane ElfBane Flying Orcbane JubJub Power\'
However, it could continue to evolve in its specific stream, so if I continue slaying trolls with my TrollBane, lets say I\'ve killed 500 trolls now.
Weapon name: A Steel Short Sword Named \'Doom of Trolls\'
Weapon myth: The blade has slain more trolls than you have ever seen in your life. The blood on its edge has long stained and turned pitch black. You can hear a slight humming sound eminating from the blade if you put your ear close to it.
20% increased physical damage against Trolls
+5 dark energy damage against Trolls?
(The attributes don\'t have to be added, just an extra idea.)
-- The biggest point is that the root of the weapon should stay intact, and the weapon naming is controlled. I mean, once a system is set up, developers could add thousands of different names into it. You could even have a section on the website where players could donate names.
I\'ve rambled on here for long enough, thanks to anyone who listened.
