My idea for renaming weapons

I assume that there will be things that will be performed only a few times (solving the Ultimate quest of the Power Crystal that kill everybody). A good idea is that when you solve such a quest, some part of your equipement (the ones you used to solve the quest, like your sword when you slay a uber-monster), will become \'legendary\'.

A legendary weapons are not forced to have better properties/stats than the normal weapon of the same type, but you can now rename it (or even change its skin) at a blacksmither.

When you have such a weapon, i think you are not going to call it \'Q#?sdf^\' because you know that only a few people in the whole world have such a weapon so you are really proud to say \'I have WorldSlayer, the Great Sword\' even if this sword is just a classic short sword.

^ I agree.   People should only automatically know your weapons name if it is indead legendary.

I still think lots of people are going to call the sword \"bastard ganker sword of death\" or something similar..

But I don\'t care.. I\'ll probably even call my stuff things like that myself :P

Thats the thing though... If you want to be a well reputed blacksmith and make uber cash, then you have to name weapons with respect.  I know it would be funny for some names... but in all honesty I think for the most part it would be ok.

Im all for whemyfields idea on the weapons menu reprsentation! It\'s pretty orderly and easy to understand. And I\'m still in favor of having only the blacksmith name weapons!!

i?d like it if crafters would be able to put their name on the items they crafted, if they want to. but they should have reached a certain skill level to be ably to do this :)

i like giving the item a real name too, but it should only be in rare occasions, not something that everybody can do anytime ;)
for example a very skilled blacksmith gathered, with big effort, some special items to craft a strong magic weapon, maybe with help from an also skilled mage or priest. and if he/they success they can name the weapon whatever they want

i like whemyfields ideas too :-)

Definitely a little tag added onto the weapon description for whoever made it.  But you wouldn\'t have to have a certain skill level for it.  If you\'ve trained to become a blacksmith you should gain your recognition as one immediately, if anything.

Haha everyone likes kixies, uh, I mean whemyfields idea :P yeah it would be good to have it organized but I\"m sure that the serious players will want cool names for their weapons.  Personaly I wouldn\'t want to be laughed at cause my weapon has a stupid name.

Exactly what I think too.  Why would anyone want a really cool weapon called SquirrelMasterofPeanuts?

Mind you, thinks like IownU will prolly be around, but they wont appear much except with n00bs.... and this also allows you to see who is n00b ;) kinda an identification if you ask me :)  And im sure the novelty would wear off quickly as they actually become serious about the game.

I like the roleplaying slant.

Maybe an engravers guild with the sense to engrave names on swords that are not obscene, either literally or figuratively.

If you break the guidelines you are removed from the guild and no longer able to engrave names on weapons.

the thing is, there wont be names that break the rules, there will be just really REALLY stupid names floating around out there...

But an engravers guild where you have to earn membership after years of Blacksmithing... definatly an idea.  But, a blacksmiths name should automatically be attached to every piece he crafts.... or has an option to not do so.  But untill he gets his engravery membership, that is all he is allowed to do :)
