A new User
« on: October 17, 2003, 01:34:24 am »
well, i am new to the world of PlaneShift. I have read all of the Newb guides and stuff and i would just like to ask a few questions.
1. what is the general mood of this game comunity?

2.What are some good fansites?

3. Who should i listen to?
I came from the Battle.net comunity, and if you dont know, its not a very pretty place. I am hoping to find a nice comunity to fit into.
Because im new doesn\'t make me a N00B..., well ok it does.

Welcome SkwirlDude.

You\'ll find the PlaneShift community worlds away from Battle.net ;) 90% of our regulars and visitors are extremely friendly, helpful and sociable.

Right now, the best fansites are those created by our resident Guilds. If you head over to the guilds forum section you\'ll have no trouble finding links. However, stay away from the Cabal. They\'re nothing but trouble. ;) (Well okay, entertainment too.)

I\'m not exactly sure what you mean by your last question. Everything the developers tell us on the website and here in the forums is the truth, as far as what they have their hearts set on implementing and what has already been achieved. However, more than anything else, you should listen to the community itself, as it is the most up-to-date, reliable source of all the information you will ever need. :)

With that said, I welcome you and hope you stick around and be a part of MMORPG history. If you have any questions, don\'t be afraid to ask. Newbies arn\'t bashed here unless they\'re asking a question that\'s been answered a million times before. :)

[Edit: I thought I was beaten too, Xandria. The forums were loading so slowly... me: \"Noooo my reputation as the quickest newbie welcomer is about to be rooooined!  ;(\"]

[Edit 2: Although Kiern has done that a couple of times now too... *shakes fist*]

First of all, welcome to Planeshift!

As for your questions:
1. Most of the people here are good.  Since this game is only a tech demo, only the people who really have an interest in this game stick around; the rest post about 4 times then leave.

2. There\'s a lot.  I can\'t name them all so I\'ll mention a couple that I follow from time to time:
http://thebbb.tk/
http://www.seperot.com/

Just wander around the forums and you\'ll find some more, just look at people\'s signatures.

3. B.Net isn\'t really that great a place if you really want to get involved.  Like I said, Planeshift isn\'t fully a game yet, so most of the forums are talk about PS, what we want to see in it, and other off-topic things.  Listen to the moderators (they have the avatar pictures under their name) because they\'re all-powerful :)  EDIT: oh yeah, the devs too, they\'re kinda important  ;)

BTW: dangit Moogie, I thought I beat you on this one!!  :D

Thanks for all the help. i am also quiet suprised that a moderator answered by first post. Mabye this has somthing to do with the fact that Battle.net moderators are considered almost godly... *cough* Gfraizer *cough*
Because im new doesn\'t make me a N00B..., well ok it does.

Hehe, I post as much as I ever did as a normal member.

I bet it\'s just as strange to see two people in competition over welcoming new people. :P But that\'s how it is here... very unique.

Also, Developers here are very friendly with the community. You\'ll often see WTB members discussing ideas in the Wishlist, or admins/mods welcoming people and answering questions here... it helps to attract potential contributers, sponsors and generally creates a much more relaxed atmosphere. You\'re even welcome to visit the Public Developer IRC Channel if you wish, drop in to say hi or offer your ideas/skills.

That reminds me, there\'s a fan-channel too. I\'m sure the details are floating around here somewhere, but I don\'t know them myself. You can probably find them by running a search.

Silly Moogie  :P

The fanchat IRC is the second item from the top at the main planeshift website
http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html

\"2003.09.14

We felt there was a bit of confusion about the irc fan channel to use, also some of the identified servers have bad up times. Officially from today, the new irc server for planeshift fans is irc.quakenet.org at channel #planeshift.\"

But that would be too simple...  ;)

And no, there is no competition, you\'re just the forum vulture;  remember that some of us like our meal fresh every once in awhile (uhh, no pun indended  :D )

Seriously though, it was just odd how there were no replies when I started writing, then I hit preview and your post was sitting there mocking me  ;(

EDIT: Oh yeah, one more thing SkwirlDude, check out the thread about the Mug Hunt on Friday.  It\'ll be a good way to get yourself started in Planeshift, since it will be one of the few times that there are more than 5 people in the world at once.  I\'ll try to be there, provided I get home from work soon enough.  Good luck!

Nobody ever talks on battle.net. In this game, talking most of what\'s available.
Skwirls are cool! (Except for shadowmancer) In MTG, my brother has a soxxor roxxoring squirrel deck.
EDIT: I\'m a double as now!
