Well, you can look at it this way...

The Azure Sun exists in the middle of the cavern roof and provides light that has day/night cycles.  This could mean the following:

1. The big crystal emits its own light, which could be that the crystal itself is magical/supernatural/god-created, or that since it emits its own light, it may actually be alive, and the day/night cycles are its life pulses.  It may or may not even be a crystal.

2. The big crystal does not emit its own light, but reflects it from elsewhere.  It could reflect the light that\'s inside the giant cavern, but I think this unlikely.  It would have to amplify light as well to accomplish this.  It could also be that the light that is seen in day/night cycles comes from somewhere outside the cavern, and that the cycles represent a planetary rotation.

If you log into the client and go to the library, there\'s a book on the bottom floor with an upwards-streaming particle light beneath it.  On the open page you can see a macro-view of Yliakum.  Many people miss this.

The Crystal draws its light from the surface and thus Yliakum is subjected to times of \"day\" and \"night\"

i\'ve made a quick image of how the world looks like according to the website:

Nice drawing!!

But what about this cave, is it really big in size?
Does anything live in the cave, is there any atmosphere?
And is it that we are really tiny, or is it that the cave is huge?

yuh, doesn\'t the planet have a mantle? I think we should get earthquakes and stuff.

Who said PlaneShift was located on the Earth? Who says this planet has a hot core, like the Earth? What makes you think this planet is even made like the Earth, so that there are earthquakes?

Oh, and please. There are humanoid creatures on the planet, so of course there\'s an atmosphere. :P

I suppose their might not be a core or mantle. It would be freezing cold, and compasses wouldn\'t work, and the planet wouldn\'t have much gravity, but other than that, it would be fine.  :D

i don\'t think the cave is really that big compared to the planet, but it made it somewhat easier to draw it this way..

It\'s silly to try to put PS in our physics model. The place has a MAGICAL crystal, mind you. So anything is possible.

I thought no one lived in the cave, but they all lived in the Stalactite. So it doesn\'t really mean that the cave has to have an atmosphere, does it.
And yeah, if there is gravity on the planet (which i\'m sure there is) won\'t the stalactite maybe drop and crash, which could mean the end to us all.

Also, i have read the storline, but to actually explaine this whole idea you would need more than what they have writen.
I wish they would update their pages a bit.

If civilizations can live in a stalgmite then surely some can survive outside it on the surface of the land.
And if so, they would be the size of .... i don\'t know whats. It would be so cool if they implemented this in the game.
Just imagine afer years of gameplay you find you and your guild have bust loose out of the stalagmite and find that a huge man like creature (so huge that it coveres your whole area of sight) would walk past and step on you.
And the only way you could avoid it is if you ran 60 miles a second, because thats how big his foot was. :(  :(  :(  :P
