Speed of Combat
« on: October 29, 2003, 06:26:30 pm »
I was wondering if there is an idea of what the speed of the combat is going to be?

Is it going to be fast, similar to Diablo 2?

or Slow like Ultima Online, or the 4th comeing?

gtg.. will post more later..

Is the Combat going to be Point and click? Or will it be like Knights of the Old Republic, where you que up attacks?

I got no clue, only the devs really do, but I can tell you; if the game continues in the direction it is going, either way- the combat\'ll be great.

Well, this game had better not turn out like Diablo II... I got Diablo II for Diablo II, and I don\'t need planeshift for Diablo II.

I doubt Venge would allow the publish of a release where fighting is similar to D2. He doesn\'t like it, I think. :P

NO, I don\'t mean just like D2, I meant the battle system, real time. It\'s not gonna be turn-based, runescape-ish or anything. It\'ll most likely be D2/Zelda ish, like I said.

And what information do you base this statement upon? Just curious, that\'s all..

OK...look at the format of the game. It\'s an fp, its fantasy, a massive world, and thouands of players.

There is no way possible for it to be turn-based. Cuz you know, some people take turns quicker and slower than others, and turn-based combat would just be a mess.

What I am wondering is where that game-that-shall-not-be-named thing came from... I don\'t remember what I typed there, but I know i didn\'t type that, lol.

Actually, it could be turn based. Games like FF7 had it, so u took turns, but u had a time limit between each turn. So one person could be on turn 1, while the other on turn 2.

The problem would be that all fights should be area defined. Otherwise the whole world would enter turn based mode. And that\'s just if one battle occured at given time!

It would then also be nigh impossible to bypass a fight, \'cause one wouldn\'t know to where the turn-based \"borders\" reached. So one could get dragged in a fight unwillingly and unprepared.

Don\'t misunderstand me, I like turn-based combat a lot. It just seems to me it\'s hard to implement it.

No point and click!   Please!!!    I beg of you.   Kill that evil point and click demon.

Targetting and queing up commands would be cool.     Freeworld also has a nice idea.  Though it\'s a bit more anoying then point and click right now since it\'s not implemented all that well.

Spoonscape is turnbased is realtime... a turn is simply defined as a period of time within a single combat. Just expand on that, I guess.

if any of you know The 4th comeing, (similar combat to ultima online..) you click the monster and then your character attacks it untill it dies.. THAT KIND OF COMBAT I DO NOT WANT!

I want a more diablo 2 style where you can move around faster and run around monsters (the slow ones anyway..)

I agree it shouldn\'t be turn-based. What would you do with such stats as Dexterity? To me, Dex means being able to dodge attacks and move around quickly and the like. Can\'t really do that when you\'re standing there taking turns to whack a monster, eh?
