I thought that feature was reserved to people \"known\" to PlaneShift, not for everyone...? But then again, I never seem to figure what Venge means until he actually tells it to me word by word... :P

Edit: Silly spelling. :)

Yes, but you have support of the crystalspace engine and we all know that PS devs are more skilled and more motivated than payed ones... ;)

Maths are slightly different now :D

Kiern: reaven did the math: 16-50years. That\'s how he meant t\'will never be finished.

Elscouta: if the given equation was right(ya sure) then the difference would not matter much. They\'d have to get/update the engine constantly and with time they would grow less motivated(probably).

I think there was a statement how long they think it will take them to \"finish\" it on the main page...

You know, when you are a part of a coding team, you spend a lot of time trying to understand what your teammates did and how you can use them. Using an external engine is not so different.

And i still don\'t think that a commercial project with 40~100 people goes 10x faster than a free project with 4~10 people. Why? Because PS doesn\'t have (and don\'t really need), commercials, testers (we are here for that, aren\'t we? ;)), managers... Ok, there is only 10 members in the PS team, but these people work on PS, not on ads nor trying to find who isn\'t enough productive...

That\'s also why they don\'t want to invite everybody in the dev team. A low-skilled teammate can waste the time of all the PS team.

engine: well yea, but I meant they\'d have to replace/reintegrate it over and over, cause the technology would advance if it took them so much time.

I noted that the eq probably wasn\'t excact. But there\'s also the thing that developing for them is their hobby and that they have to do full-time(i guess) jobs as well.

Broken compatibilities don\'t occur so often in libraries. I think that the backend function of CS will keep improving while the major party of the public functions will stay. And if new features are added, adding them in PS will not take really more time than if the engine was develloped inside PS. And some devellopers of PS are also contributors of CS (according of what i hear in the dev chan)...

Sure, but i don\'t think that they work on PS only two hours per week ;)

Saying there are only 10 devs isn\'t really fair for estimating the game progress, because even possibly starting with the next update, and as the game becomes more... well... a game, it is more likely that experienced devs may find the game and decide to help out on it.  Which is certainly one of the best points of it\'s open sourceness.

Not only is it not exact, it is entirely incorrect :)  Take a look at \"The Mythical Man Month\" by Frederick P. Brooks (you can probably find it at the library) to understand why.  :)

Ah, sorry. By eq I meant equation(Venge\'s). Since it\'s false(we can\'t make it follow the general model), it\'s useless to discuss things (anymore)- since all was based on it...

You were right... partially;)

Bah, we\'ll see...
