Translation Features.
« on: November 07, 2003, 01:41:56 pm »
Hi, im making a translation of planeshift to Spanish. But the images are in English. Can the devs make a gallery with clean images to make in other languages??

For Example. In the main GUI of Character Creation there are words maked with the TTF and other ones that are in the image.

To translate this is to dificult because you have to clean the images and then put the new Words in it.

Can you make some changes on this. Maybe for the Crystal Blue???

Thanks.

I\'d say you rather post this in \"official feature requests\" or this will sink and be forgotten.

We are actually trying to help with the translation by placing more of the text inside .xml files for that specific language. So to translate all you need to do is translate a couple of files.  So we hope to make (all?) visible text part of these .xml files.

IMHO translate everything isnt so good. I think the item (and perhaps the skill) names should stay in english in the UI, or put the english name in the description.
My reason: it can become very complicated to trade if you dont have a general name for the items. Look at the following: sword espada spada ?p?e zwaard шпага (shpaga) schwert.
Its the same simple item name in different languages. Now imagine its a more special item with a name like \"The Ancients Fang\". Every merchant will need her own translator to guess what her customer is talking about, if they dont use the same language version.

The name would just appear as whatever it is in your language version on your client, so if someone put up what was a \"spada\" on their client, it would show as \"sword\" on yours.   There just needs to be a way to using the item name variable directly, instead of saying what it is.

yes, but if someone ask you for ancient Fang while the real name was ancients Fangs, the name will not be translated. On a more global notice, i think only gui must be translated. All in-game content should stay in english. (We don\'t want to translate dialogs from players, want we?)

Well, im maxvamp.. :P i had to use other name because i didnt remember my password. (^^.)

Im making the translation, but the items isnt been tranlated. I agree with not to translate the objects name

There must be a \"Translation rules\" page specifiying what to translate and what not.

thanks for listening.
