Dragons as a race?
« on: November 09, 2003, 07:02:49 pm »
I don\'t know if this has already been brought up or not, but, Can the programmers add one more race? The race I would like to see would be a dragon-like race. I figure the Klyros is sort of like a dragon, but it\'s not really like a dragon, you know? Anyway, I was just wondering if the developers would be open to making up another race...

Well if you are talking about a full-size, two-story high dragon....don\'t count on it.  It\'s unrealistic.  As far as a humanoid dragon race.  We have one already.

there only will be the 12 races there already are (http://www.planeshift.it/setting_races.html) they aren\'t adding races anymore, especialy no dragons(this game tries to be a bit different then other rpg games)

That\'s true, and you would end up with everyone being a dragon and the other races basically neglected. This would mean dragons were the most popular species in Yliakum, which is not the truth. It would also make the dragon specie alot less powerful overall, with the hordes of newbie dragons dying at the inexperienced, powerless hands of weakling healers and people with pointy sticks.

Hey! I\'m going to be a Healer... but I won\'t be weak. ;)

Well, I guess you\'re right. A character not created primarily for offensive combat shouldn\'t be able to bring down something as legendary as a mighty Dragon.

I agree that creating a playable Dragon race would not be a good idea; I can already see thousands of people choosing the Klyros over other races because of their wings and reptilian features... even if they are ugly as hell.

I wouldnt count on any player suggested custom races. But if it were up to me, i\'d personally love to see a drow-like race.

As far as d&d drow goes, i\'m a walking scroll of knowledge. In fact, I plan to incorporate the drow\'s cunning into my planeshift character.

Thank you for your replies. I did forget that the power the dragons symbolize is enticing to any role player. I also didn\'t realize that it would take away from the story of Planeshift. I guess I\'m going with Enkidukai after all. I like them too.

Playable legendary creatures? You know, that wouldn\'t be impossible...
I think I have the solution.

During gameplay players who RP could recive special points for good roleplaying from the DMs. Like if a character repetely proves that he or she takes the roleplaying seriously and gives life to his/her character and the world around it.
When the player gets enough points it can apply for GM-membership, and if it gets even higher it can ask the devs (or the devs representative) for permission to play as a legendary creature (or some important key-person).
That way very few players are able to play as legendary creatures, and only true roleplayers have permission to play them.

Well, I\'m just being curious but what\'s a DM? Don\'t think I ever head that one before...

DM (Dungeon-master) Actually I think I mean GM (Game-master), the devs cannot be everywhere at the same time and therefore they use players as representatives to make sure players doesn\'t misbehave and follows the rules.

GMs = Players & Devs
Devs = Devs

So honestly, I don\'t see where the DM fits in? :)

Edit: Btw, I know what a GM is, I just didn\'t have a clue about the DM. :D
