I sure hope this game never comes to the point where only being in strong guilds allows you to success - guilds are good but the game should stay balanced, of course some guilds are stronger than others but it shouldn\'t have to mean one or two guilds own the rest and the rest just have miserable times making them only concentrate on their survival.
I hope too. But I don\'t think we\'ll get anywhere near that soon.
If you want to have a really powerful guild, you will need very good people at the top, with leadership abilities, as well as motivated people at every level. This means people that have ambition and who will probably, someday, depart from the guild and create their own if they are stuck. Too many potential leaders won\'t be happy together, that should limit the size of the guilds and provides opportunities for new guilds.
A powerful guild can be attractive for someone who wants to progress quickly and has much to offer, or for someone who just wants to be sheltered and helped and doesn\'t mean to make too much effort. The former will either find his place, or be frustrated at some point because he will not have enough elbow room to achieve what he wants to. The latter will either stay and not bring any advantage to the guild or be thrown out of it. In any case, an equilibrium should be reached.
People who has got enough experience can form their own guild without repeating the past errors. I think that if you want to build something that has some chance to survive long enough, you have to carefully choose your \"associates\" especially at the beginning, and think about your structure, beliefs and strategy so that it can grow efficiently and safely. Like that, I see no reason why a new guild couldn\'t last and prosper in due time.
Besides, it is a safeguard against chaotic people pretending to introduce spies, or other doubtful and childish tactics meant to harm guilds, supposedly for the sake of RPing. Maybe we should only see them as crows feeding on the unfit

Finally, when economy will be in (in a more complete way), big guilds won\'t be able to survive on their own, they will need smaller ones to do business. People alone won\'t be able to compete against groups, either, so there always will be a pool of available characters eager to join.
That\'s only my opinion for what it\'s worth
