Hi guys\'n\'gals. Needing help. The following is the basic display framework of the game. I need people to test it out under as many display settings, with as many windows versions and with as many programs running simulataneously as possible. Plz plz help m3h. Report the errors here mentioning your OS and direct X version and the error message exactly.

its a mere ~30Kb download. It needs to be converted from .bmp to .zip and unzipped to get the folder out. Dont kill me if you think it sucks. I created it this morning so i can\'t be held responsible for its suckiness:P.

You can have the source code Xandria. Its the ddraw framework you wanted. Sorry its late:P. I\'ll mail it to ya soon.

I tested it with as many resolutions as possible for my monitor and with a LOT of programs running simultaneously (along with Planeshift :) ) so my cpu time was always high and task manager was reading well over 750 MB memory usage.... couldn\'t get it to fail.

Go stickman go! :D

Anyway, here\'s my specs:

AMD 2600+
512 MB DDR PC 2100
GeForce 2 MX 64 MB
Win 2k Pro SP4
Direct X 9.0a

Tested it from 640x480 to 1280x1024 with my 17\" monitor.  Also tried a few different color depths at 1024x768 just to make sure.

EDIT: I made all three different sizes and each of em at different color depths by resaving the images (monocrhome, 16 color, 256 color then changed another to 24 bit)... still works good, just looks funny now :D

Preciate it:) ghost!. There is more you can do with if it if you wish. The three bmps are displayed serially from 1.bmp to 3.bmp. Try changing them to differnt bmps of different size and depth. Other try it too. If you have the time that is:).

And BTW:
Heh heh! I know this is stupid to ask but can anyone tell me how to retrieve client area origin coordinates w.r.t the absolute screen origin? Using VC7 calls ofcourse.

if you move the window about the image doesnt move with it, eg. if you move the window down an inch you cant see the head, if u move it up u cant see the legs.

UPDATE:

Xand buddy,

 I am done with the map engine. We now have a working animated tile maker and map generator. Working on AI right now. I need something done. can you arrange a communication library for me? Here\'s a description:

A lobby- client structure. Think of a chat client. Say the IRQ common room. I need to be able to send and recieve DWORDS  to a server specified by an IP and a specific thread running on it. Preferably with parity checks. Can it be also rigged address multiple threads? Thats all. I don\'t have any more to describe since I don\'t understand networks adequately. Please feel free to ask me anything or correct me on anything.

Can this be done? What info will need to be provided to address specific threads on the machine?


Anyone else out there who might feel like helping out a poor net illiterate guy:

Please help if you can. Correct me wherever I was wrong or went too far in my demands. We can discuss the library\'s working if needful.


Help out and we might have a Killing Field for PS gamers where grudges and wars can be fought out before long:P.

Great to see you\'re (finally :P) making progress, I tested the thingie you put up for download and so far the only thing I could find was that it gives me a \"DISPLAY CHANGE DETECTED!!!\" message when I minimalize it and then maximalize it again, but I suppose it should be doing that. :P

My college days are about to be over guys. Wooohooooo!!!!!!!.
College sucked bigtime:tdown:X(. Now i have plenty O time before my joining date. Then i guess i\'ll have yo go to work (though i\'ll try my best to not actually work;)). Anywho what that means is i\'ll be around much more and plague PS in increasing proportions. Now if that doesn\'t make your day I don\'t know what will????(.....

But anywho
what that also means is i\'ll finally have time to see if this game idea can actually go somewhere. I did a fair bit of work before the end of feb and I had a terrain generator and the rendering engine ready(though i have forgotten much of what i did since i am not into commenting and/or documentation).

I\'ll also be looking into the multiplayer aspect of this baby. Maybe we can actually have some sorta thingummajigger where atleast upto 4-8 people can play at once.  The number is limited since this will be a small peer network. I don\'t have a server to spare to host anykind of larger game. Any help anyone can provide will be appreciated.

There has also been a change in the original idea. Xandria knows of this.

- The game will be isometric map based instead of side scrolling.

so what we need now are artists who can draw isometric charachters. We need 5 views of a symmertic figure N, S, N-W, S-W, W by the compass. Rest can be mirrored. For asymmetric figures we would need all eight views.  Think Baldur\'s gate and you will get the idea. Not as complex and much more cartoony. Do anyone of you feel you can help us? I only need all veiws of one charachter right now. Can anyone do this? If you can post here. I\'ll get back to ya.

Unfortunately, I am still in college, and I\'m a bit behind in my work (not to mention finals coming up soon).  I\'ll see what I can help out on in my free time but I won\'t be able to guaruntee much at the moment.  Only about 3 weeks left and after that I\'ll be so very, very free :)

But thank you for keeping us updated Auran, and thanks for staying devoted to the project even after I sorta...lost track :P  But nevermind that, I\'m back and I\'ll make sure that we can create something that everyone will want to play  8)

Latest Update:

This is to inform everyone that I am not sleeping but am currently busy with m3h nu job. But anywho that didn\'t prevent me from coding for my pet PS project and I am glad to announce that you can look forward to a release of the game next week or so. Now the reason i am making this prerelease post is that without it I couldn\'t release anything since i need artists to create the charachters for the game.

But first i\'ll enumerate certain charachtaristics of the near completion mini game:

1. Think Street Fighter with a slightly rpg style charachter creation.i.e you can choose looks and stats of your charachter. However once chosen the stats remain constant like core d&d.

2. Dice roll system for evaluating event outcomes. (which means there is a slight chance that a str 1 mage might floor a str 25 with a melee hit).

3. 6 offence moves(including one \"secial finishing move\") and two defending postions. Melee, Ranged and spell attacks available (but choice is very limited).

4. Spellcasting limited by Mana.

So there those should give you some idea how it is going. I have the graphic and game engines in place. Custom animation and character generation modules are ready. Now i am trying tyo get mutliplayer in place or i\'ll have to work on some sort of rudimentary AI.

Now let me get to the main point: Till now I only have one charachter \" StickMan\" for which my lack of artistic talents is accountable. To be fair a special move called \"Pixel Storm\" fails to impress. So i\'ll be needing artists if the game is going to be anygood. I will make the animation generation module availabale seperately in a few days anyone who wants can give it a go.

Any suggestions regarding the game should be expressed now. It\'ll be very difficult to incorporate anything once the distribution DLLs are compiled. Any input is valuable since it is very possible for me working by myself to have overlooked something. So any questions peeping in your mind should be asked and any suggestion forming should be expressed. AND SOON.

I tried it on Gentoo Linux with an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB PC2700 RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.
