Movements of the character!
« on: November 19, 2003, 07:55:35 pm »
Sorry, maybe, for the stupid question, but it is a curiosity and probably it can be usuful (at least for me) for some project.
I admit that i don\'t know so much about these things, so please forgive me :-)

How is done the animation of each character?
I mean: have u used 3dstudiomax and create some small animation, like character running, walking or greeting?
Or you have been using Crystal Space for this?

Sorry if it is quite stupid question!

Hmm... i\'m not a PS dev but i think i can answer to this.

CS maps and objects (players...) are coded in XML files (hard to read/write). There\'s tools in CS that allow to convert some objects created with a modeler to the internal CS format. So you can create your players with your favorite modeler (not sure if all the modeler are supported though) then convert it to run in CS.

they use a plugin for 3dsmax to convert 3dsmax files to crystal space, the maps are coded in xml

I was not asking how to convert 3ds model in something usable by CS, I know that there is an utility called 3ds2lev (if i don\'t remember the name wrong) that convert 3ds format in the XML one used by CS.
Of course u do this for maps and characters.
Btw, there is no plugin from 3dsmax, but from 3ds. So, u have to export from 3dsmax in 3ds format.

My question was about the characters movement: is it done with 3dsmax animation or CS help the programmer/developer with animations, giving some parameters?

I\'m pretty sure that there is a (Crystal Space) plug-in for 3dsMAX and that you can export animation from 3dsMAX with it (as well as crystal space levels).  I could be wrong, it\'s been a while since I read the documentation on that.  Or maybe what you said was how the plug-in had to work... I forget.  Of course the devs know though...

Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

Characters are exported from both Maya and Max.  Animations are done in those tools.

Haven\'t you found any problem in exporting from max to CS?
I knew some people for who this process was quite complicated.

Thank you again for the answer,
Ary
