Please tell me that ain?t true!
« on: November 22, 2003, 07:09:04 pm »
Hey, guys! Tell me that ain?t true! Is it right that in this game that won?t be level up by killing monsters and earning experience!!!???? That would be a crap! Will it be such as ultima online, where we just get up our skills and such... thats not good!

Hmmm, from what I understand, you will gain experience in different skills as you use them.  So fighting will increase your fighting skills, using magic will increase magic skills, etc.

If you\'re talking about that there won\'t be any \"I\'m 35202321 exp from lvl 51!!\" then you\'re correct.  There are no visible character levels, and there will likely not be any visible exp stats displayed anywhere.

But dontcha think that will be excessively boring? Amongst other things I?m watching that will be put in this game, it?ll turn into in a totally 3d copy of ultima... It should have level ups by experience, also, such as in diablo 1 & 2...?

I was talking about diablo. Arcade as in those machines you mention... all you have to do is click on the buttons as mad...nothing more.

... But in ultima, we have to cut wood, we have to cook... and interact, have a house, and so on, the only thing I don?t like is that you need to run 50 kilometers to find a monster... and the experience system that u don?t level up is a crap... and u have to pay that sucks. That?s why I don?t like americans, they ol]nly think about money those bastards. I?d like a game suck as baldur?s gate, mixed with diablo and ultima. That would be real good u dont hthink so?

I think the skill system works great.  I played Project Entropia for a short time, and it is completely skill-based with no levels.  I think it was a great model, because you get better at the things you do the most.  Hacking up monsters with a sword, then putting all your \"points\" into magic isn\'t my idea of RP\'ing. :(

U got a point, Xandria... Thinking better, I?m really starting to like the skill based system, it?s more realistic...

Oh, and what about project entropia, is ot good? Is it worth the download with 56k?

Maybe you can have a general \'level\' that\'s calculated automatically from your skills. For example to be a mage level 1, you need 4 points, level  2 is 16 points ... where points are calculated like this (just an example):
 - Each magic way give n^2 points (n is skill level)
 - Each non-fighting way give n points.
 - Each fighting way give n/3 points.

The program calculate level for each class (mage, battle mage, rogue, warrior...) then give you level according to the class where you are the more ranked. Although, this global level must not have many impact, probably only for some NPCs to attribute quests...
