Living Weapons... Part II
« on: November 26, 2003, 01:04:10 pm »
Guys you just don\'t get it. Have anyone of you played Soul Reaver or Blood Omen??? I think no.
I\'m not talking about living running talking flying dying crying ... weapons. I\'m talking about weapons that are bond to you, have some senses (danger sense e.g.), can become furious in battle but that\'s it. I don\'t want to bring up an NPC weapons no way. I just want weapons that can change a bit. I\'m so tired of weapons that just don\'t change (the same piece of magic steel in your hand one day after another)... On the other hand, it would be nice to have any weapons (CB come quickly...)

Uh, neat, I see your idea! But that could be charmed weapons :P Like there was this game (NWN I think) that there were rings that had this strange light (changed color depending on the item) that would light up the things a bit :P

like you can\'t have weapons in MB :D

Well weapons like that would be... you know... \"a bit\" rare :P
I wouldn\'t count that much on finding one of those :P

I love that idea Ice_Phoenix!

Some weapons should behave like NPCs!!!!

That way they could argue with you: \"No, that malformed rat doesn\'t look like it\'s worth the effort to kill.\"

They could have skills, evolve into stronger weapons, etc.

I think that there are lots of items that could be living and performing independant actions.

Evolve into better weapons? Have there own skills? That ruins the whole point of smithing, your basically giving warriors familiars. If you want cool new skills, learn new fighting techniques and whatnot.
I think rather then acting like NPC\'s they could just be enchanted or dipped in poision or our something along those lines.

\"..the same piece of magic steel in your hand one day after another..\"

Thats what smiths are for, use your \'same piece of magical steel\' to make some money, and then buy new better swords.
I will live forever, or die trying.

U know i have played a lot of games and read alot of books for living weapons.
Who does not liked the story of Elric of melnibone and his sword the Stormbringer?
I believe that many here would like a weapon with a char.
Or customizable spells if anyone remember the singin fireball .
And for closing i just remembered the excalibers brother, the Singing sword :)

You know there was a mythological sword/knife that grew with danger, never cut the owner, could cut through anything, fit perfectly in the hand of the owner, and grew with the owner,

they would have hell of a time programming the sword to grow accurately according to danger et cetera

you cant see it with your eyes, hold it with your hand, like the wind it covers all land, this thing called love.
It can lift you up never put you down, take your world and turn it all around.
Ever since time nothings ever been found
thats stronger than love

A weapon is a weapon, it is a tool used for defending and attacking. Why do you want to make one with character? It doesn\'t make any logical sense, it wouldn\'t add anything to gameplay, it isn\'t realistic so it takes out immersion, and it what would it do? Just say things to you? It\'s a sword not a pet! Buy an animal from an animal trainer if your that lonely. Actually, if you\'re THAT lonely, you probably need to find a nice shady inn with thick walls... :P

Anyway, Lilocar (sp) in BG2 was cool, but that was a single player game so it didn\'t much matter. MMORPG\'s have actual living players to interact with so you don\'t need talking swords.
