Can you become a master?
« on: November 28, 2003, 08:33:28 pm »
Hi, I\'m sure this question has already been asked a few times, but I figure I\'ll ask it anyway.

Can you become a master of anything/everything? Aside from magic/martial arts, which you have to pick a few schools in, is it possible to become a sword master, axe master, halberd master, farming master, etc.?

I think it would be really neat if you could. Although practicing every skill possible would use up a lot of time you could spend training one skill, but it would allow broad range characters that are OK merchants, casters, and hack/slashers, etc.

The reason I asked this is because I don\'t like games where you can only have..say.....8 skills, and you have to pick carefully, or you\'ll have the wrong ones, and then you have to start 3 or 12 characters to try every path(merchant, caster, farmer, craftsman, etc.).

EverQuest went wrong there, in that you have to be melee OR a caster - you can\'t be a barbarian warrior that has mastered summoning and has a hoard of golems(ok, maybe only 3) to help him smash things.

Well, thanks in advance to anyone knowledgeable.

The short answer: yes, the way PS is planned right now, you could learn as many different trades as you like.

This is due to the balancing fact that a \"a jack of all trades is a master of none.\"  If you choose to profess in both magic and melee combat, then you will be able to adapt to more situations, but your magic ability will be far less than that of a pure wizard and the same for melee combat.

I totally agree with you that class-based systems are very limiting.  That is one of the reasons I think PS will be such an awesome game.  :D  8)  :)

Yes you can but if you want to complete all skill you\'ll probably need too much time (read the thread on addicting in Hydlaa Plaza) :P
