no levels....
« on: November 29, 2003, 10:30:33 pm »
If there isnt gonna be any levels... how are you gonna be better in 1 skill than in another. Say you have 2 warriors, one has been playing for a year and one just started. If the experienced player takes off all his armor etc. the newbie will be equal with the strong player, right? i mean if theres no levels, how are you supposed to be better than someone else?

no. Duh, the veteran will have better skills and ergo do more damage, even when they both are unarmored and weaponless.

Well, there is no \'overall level\',  each skill has it\'s own level base.  So each skill has it\'s own rank.   So a person may be stronger in strength but weak in swords while another can be stronger in swords but weak strength.  Who will win?  That is where the balancing takes place.

Think about what you\'re saying. Levels and skills are entirely different things.

I know levels and skills are different...mosr games have different skills that have different levels, for example you can have lv 32 mining, level 24 cooking etc. If we dont have levels... how do we know who is better at a certain skill?

Who needs \"32 strength\" when you know that you are an elite farmer that can smash golems into bits if they invade your fields. :)

I liked the old avatar, Moogie...
Anyway, in rl, you know whether you\'re good at something without numerical representation.

Well, u train ur skills by using em.Just as it is with levels(in other games), u get better by gaining experience. Mostly, that means fighting. but skills is better, because u dont train all skills with fighting, right?
With that training, even a Mage could learn some fighting skills, although it can be a bit strange...
They ll  surely add some limits for skills...

I know this one game where its measured by how often you used it. Not mentioning but im sure there is more. It was neat because you would hardly see anyone of the same type as you.

Davis - Very true. :)

Icefalcon - You get good at things because you keep training them, not because you see a some text saying \"LVL UP +5 skillpoints\" each time you kill a certain amount of monsters. :)
