CANT CONNECT!!!

Hi i cant connect since 2 days and i need by daily dose of planeshift!! (lol theres no fight and xp and im already addict to PS)

as maybe others im stuck on initialyzing world. I read like 4 or 5 other threads but there was no clear answers or answers that could help me. I waited 2 hours and still nothing. However its not the first time i run it  cuz i have PS since a week but it only screws up since yesterday.

I have a P3 866mhz, GEforce 4 64meg and 3 hundreds somethin gmemory. My disk isnt surcharged either (half of it is free).

assuming you have a windows platform try going to a command prompt and typing:

ping 203.81.47.74

It would not be that different in Linux

hmm i typed it in   execute  but i dont know if this is what u wanted me to do. Do i have to write it in a PS command prompt? btw after writing it in execute, a ms-dos black screen appeared during 3 sec then i tried to reconnect but i still cant.

Go to Start > Run and type the word command

In the MS-DOS Prompt that appears, type:

ping 203.81.47.74

This should return some text to you stating the ping or latency of your connection to the server. If it fails or you get \"100% loss\", you may be having Linkdead problems. Read the sticky thread about that for more details.

Still nothing!!!  im so desesperate!

I read the WHOLE link dead sticky thread and i tried all the possible solutions : i changed the compatibility, i tried the other ip they were telling there, i tried ur command, etc...

By the way when the loading screen gets to initialyzing world (and will stay there for 93846hours if i do nuthin), when I click on the window, a loading icon replace my mouse (dont know how you call it in english) and then it says in the top of the window : PS MB (does not answer). If i reduce it, i cant restore it and if i move another window over it, well i dont know how to describe it but the other window appears decuplated on PS and hide it(everyone gets this with a crashed program).

And if I wait a REAL long time, i get the link dead message...

Ok thx lol. Ill tell what I do and what i get in order:

1) I change the compatibility from WIN95 to WIN98
2) I go on run (if i said execute earlier its because that is ?ex?cuter? in french), then i type command and a ms-dos window appears, then i type ping 203.81.47.74
3)result (in french sry   ):

4)Then i go on planeshift, i connect with that IP, It first initialize GUI and 2 or 3 other lines, then the last lines appears (initialyzing world).
5) I reenter the command just in case (i have to do it really quickly after getting on loading screen because as soon as initialyzing world appears, i cant restore the screen anymore, it just keep reduced and i cant clik on restore or anything else exept close).
6) If i succeed to re-enter the command, exactly the same results appears.
7)After, if i do nothing, it just wond load (i ever waited for 24h without results!). If i click on the screen, a loading icon replace my mouse icon (dont no how u call it in english but u no the thing with sand inside lol). At this moment, at the top of the window, ?does not answer? appears. If i try to close it, i get a new window  for ?close now? or ?cancel? and sometimes i must click like 10times on close now for PS to finally close.

Here thats my story until now. If u get troubles understanding french, enter the command and the words should be the same i think.

Plz someone find a solution before I end my days !!

Pinging the server works, at least.

Did you install something special in windows just before your problem appears? Or changed some part of your hardware? Did you perform an anti-virus scan? Also try to defrag your hard drive. Sorry but I can\'t find anything else to try.

Let\'s try something else. You don\'t seem to have problems with your network, unless you\'re experiencing cuts but then you should get a linkdead message. Also, you have enough memory plus a decent system.

Run the PS Setup (pssetup.exe program or from the start menu), and select software rendering , instead of OpenGL. Choose a lower resolution maybe. The performance will be terrible, but at least you\'ll see if you can go through the initialisation process.

Have you changed your video drivers, or your display settings ? Are you running fullscreen, or windowed mode ? In the last case, are you in 16- or 32-bit depth (I think 24-bit is not supported) ?
(as you can see, I\'m short of solutions too)

Another idea  : create a new character and try to log into Planeshift with it.

The loading icon is called an \"hourglass\" but most of us just call it a loading icon.

Exactly how much ram do you have?

Start--->>>Run--->>>dxdiag--->>>Screen which has lots of info on it.

If you have under 300mb of ram, you have to make sure VRAM is enabled, or PlaneShift will crash.

Right-Click My Computer--->>>Properties--->>>Performance Tab--->>>Virtual Memory(probably different in French)

I have windows automatically manage my Virtual Memory, but you may want to manually set it to atleast 1000mb if windows isn\'t setting it right.

YAAA !!! I created another character (the 5th and the last one) as my last hope and it finally connected. It got on Planeshift after 3 tries : the first said planeshift encountered an error and must close with the ?send? or ?not send? report, the second did the eternal link dead thing and the 3rd WORKED!! Its REALLY annoying but its better than nothing.

I dont know how it finally wanted to work becuz i tried every races and almost every classes + custom so it must not be related to the character. Now to answer your possible solutions ( maybe to try to find why such a bug occurs and to be able to help the other players affected by the cannotus connectus  :

Leander256: no new hardware or such, nothing new installed, no virus scan. I defragmented my disk just before creating a new char (i was still using my real one) and i still had the link dead problem.

CadRipper : i had already tried to lower from 32 to 16bit depth (i cant select 24 anyway), to use software and to lower my res to the minimum, but nuthin worked.

Kramy : First of all, thx for ur little english lesson lol . I have 384 ram memory so im alright for this. My virtual memory was 516-1132 i think and i changed it to 1000-1132 but it didnt change anything.

Anyways thx a lot for ur help guys and hope it wont happen to many other unlucky ppl like me!

P.S. for programmers or anybody else who has this power : since they dont work, u cant delete the following characters : Tarrask and Jabotti ( there is more but i really dont remember their names, sorry) . By the way Tarrask was my real char so if it is possible, it would be REALLY cool to reserve this name for the next PS release cuz i really like that name and i dont want anybody else to take it lol. Oh and i also had 4 or 5 rubies, so if someone could transfer them to Tarraskkk (my new and temporary character). I dont know what they do or if theyre worth something but anyways...
