Draklar's Story
« on: December 06, 2003, 11:18:35 pm »
Here i start the story of Draklar Az\'randal. For now only 1st chapter. There\'s not much about Draklar himself but oh well... here it goes ;)

Chapter 1:
\"Haldamir\'s Opening\"

A bird struggled. He leaped from a tree into the air, successfully breaking silence in the forest. Indeed, the forest of Livandriel wasn\'t that calm in a long time. Usually filled with birds chirping and various animals running around, this afternoon it seemed to be dead. On any other day, Draklar would consider that as a bad sign, but not this time... Actually, that young dermorian\'s mind was wandering far away from the forest. Sitting on a rock in the middle of Haldamir\'s Opening, he was thinking about Aranel\'s proposal.
He never thought about leaving Livandriel... in fact... he wouldn\'t even think about it now, if not for the fact that Aranel was his best friend. Together they spent the days of their childhood... their warrior training... but now he was leaving... One of his uncles offered him job as a guard in some bigger city.
Draklar frowned. \"What was the city\'s name?\" - he couldn\'t recall...
Aranel could pick one person to accompany him. No one was surprised when he choose Draklar. Few days passed since then, but still, he couldn\'t decide what to do. Draklar looked around. Haldamir\'s Opening was one of his favorite places in the forest. Always peaceful, this rather small opening was filled with beautiful, white flowers. Haldirs - that was their name. Like the opening, those flowers were named after Haldamir, an old elven paladin, that not once, fought for this forest. Indeed, his brave deeds got him into stories of many bards. Actually, this place had it\'s own story as well...
Arminas was Haldamir\'s best friend. They traveled together, fighing side by side, for many years. More than once an evil warlord had fallen under their swords, they could always count on each other. Still... Arminas was jealous of his friend\'s strenght. No matter how much he trained, he was always staying far behind Haldamir. In fact, jealousy was his biggest weakness, weakness that one day... made him fall...
Azangar might be just another evil character that would kneel before this duo, but fate decided to make it go another way...
The fight was very tiring and lots of blood had been spilled on both sides... Haldamir and Arminas met Azangar on the Moran-dum mountain. Not much time had passed untill the first sounds of clashing swords filled that place. Now... two of Azangar\'s companions were lying in puddles of blood and while Arminas was fighing with their leader, Haldamir was finishing the last of them.
Again and again, Haldamir kept attacking his enemy. It was obvious that he wouldn\'t last long... Many wounds were decorating that ylian\'s body. His greatly damaged armour looked like it could fall apart any second. He couldn\'t catch breath and was barely keeping himself from falling over. He moved back a little and took off his helmet. One moment later it fell out from his hands... It hit the rocky ground, thumbing loudly. Haldamir started moving slowly towards his enemy, his sword was ready to attack. The Ylian couldn\'t take it any longer, he hit at Haldamir, but the dermorian dodged it with ease. Now was his chance to finish him off. One fast attack. Haldamir\'s blade pierced the ylian\'s throat, sheding lots of blood all around the area. A surprised look appeared on ylian\'s face... his lifeless body dropped to the ground... Haldamir looked up. He could still hear sounds of a fight comming down from the mountain\'s cliff.
Their swords clashed. Arminas and Azangar looked deeply into each other eyes. The short silence got interrupted by Azangar\'s weak laugh. Arminas frowned.
- \"What are you laughing at?\"
- \"At my opponent\'s blindness\"
- \"Blindness? I fight no worse than you do!\"
- \"It is not what I mean, do you know what are you fighting for?\"
- \"To stop the evilness!\" Azangar laughed again: \"fool!\"
Arminas\' face covered with anger. \"Enough!\" - he shouted. With all his strenght he attacked his enemy. It was too much for Azangar - stunned by attack, he dropped his weapon.
- \"What? How come?\" - he asked with disbelief.
- \"Like many before you - you were no match for my power\"
- \"Power? That\'s what you really fight for, isn\'t it?\"
- \"No, I fight to stop the ones like you!\"
- \"You are just fooling yourself!\"
- \"So maybe I am... why do you care?\"
- \"Ohh... I don\'t, but i think you should.\"
- \"Maybe indeed... Tell you what, I\'ll kill you now, and think about it later\" - Arminas moved his blade to Azangar\'s throat.
- \"D-don\'t... I can help you\"
- \"Oh? You can?\" - he laughed - \"Very well... I\'ll listen\"
Azangar sighed with relief.
- \"Face it... all you want is to become stronger than your friend\" Arminas moved his sword away from him.
- \"What? How do you know that?\"
- \"Your eyes say more than you imagine, my friend\"
- \"Call me friend again and I\'ll make sure it\'ll be your last word... Now go on.\"

Haldamir looked around. Damaged terrain and blood prints was all that was left from Azangar\'s and Arminas\' fight. Trails were going north. It was obvious. His friend abandoned him.

Many years passed since then. Haldamir thought that he wouldn\'t ever see Arminas again. He was wrong...

- \"Haldamir!\" - he heard a familiar voice. - \"Long time no seen\" He turned around. In front of him there was Arminas, standing in medium armour, holding a sword and a shield. Haldamir answered: \"Sneaky as always, I see. Didn\'t hear you comming\"
- \"Indeed... you could be dead already\"
- \"Why am i still alive then?\"
- \"I\'m here to defeat you in fight, to prove i\'m stronger\"
- \"Is that so... I can\'t believe you are evil now... It\'s just not you\"
- \"Save it! I\'m here to kill you, so fight or die as a coward\"
- \"Very well then... let\'s do it your way\"
And the fight started. Sounds of steel striking steel were heard in Livandriel for many hours. Lots of blood have been shed and many trees were wounded by missed attacks. Finally, Haldamir striked his opponent\'s neck, killing him at the same moment. The paladin looked at his former friend. Arminas was dead. Killed by his hands. He looked at the corpse with disbelief, as tear ran down his cheek.
- \"Never again\" - he whispered
Haldamir moved towards a nearby stone and thrusted his sword into it. After that, he just walked away. No one knows what happened to him afterwards. Most say he became cleric and never used any weapon again.
Place around the rock soon filled with Haldirs. Finally, after many years it turned into the place known today as \"Haldamir\'s Opening\".

Draklar moved his hand over a crack in the rock. Could all that be true? If so, what happened to Haldamir\'s sword? He sighed as undoubtedly he won\'t ever find out. Suddenly, a group of frightened birds leaped into the air. Draklar grabed his broadsword. Something bad happened, not far away. There was no time to lose. He picked up his rucksack and runned to see what was it.

Chapter 2:
\"Ylian\"

Not much time passed \'till he found out what scared the birds. There was some creature hiding in the bushes. It had a bow in its hands. The bow was of a rather short type, this bow couldn\'t match the structure of an elven bow. The creature was aiming at something and the arrow was ready to glide towards its target. Just one moment, let the fingers release the arrow and it shall leave the bow to meet its destiny. Surprised by the encounter, Draklar stood in shock. The creature didn\'t need much time to notice him. It looked at elf with it\'s large, red eyes and one moment later it started running away. Draklar didn\'t even think about chasing it, he never had seen anything like that in Livandriel. It was a rather short, dark-skinned humanoid. Draklar stood there, thinking what it could be for a moment and then decided to check what was the creature aimed at. He noticed a man sitting on the ground in the distance. Holding his bleeding arm, he seemed to suffer from a great pain. Draklar hid his broadsword into sheath and started walking towards the stranger.
- \"What happened here?\" he asked after approaching him. The human looked up at Draklar, apparently surprised by the presence of an elf. Draklar\'s appearance was normal for a dermorian. He had a fair skin, long blonde hair and blue eyes.
- \"Not much\" - he answered - \"I was chasing that freak and... I guess it wasn\'t such a good idea\" he laughed weakly, but soon stopped, receiving a flow of pain.
- \"Let me check that wound\" - said Draklar
- \"Sure, heh... i guess you\'re my savior. May i ask what\'s your name?\"
- \"My name is Draklar Tasartir, but i haven\'t done that much, that creature just runned away when it noticed me.\"
- \"Well one way or another, you\'re still my savior. Thank you for what you did, Draklar. My name is Karnel Destarn.\"
- \"Pleased to meet you, Karnel. But... that wound looks nasty.\"
- \"Yea, and it hurts like hell too.\"
- \"Well i can\'t do much with it, it seems to be poisoned badly. I\'ll take you to my village, maybe someone there will be able to help you.\"
- \"Great! To tell the truth - I thought I was a goner...\"
And so they went to the Pallan?n village, the village where Draklar spent his whole life. He was well known in the Pallan?n, mostly for his willingness to help others. The villagers could always count on his help and he was gladly giving it to them. The dermorian knew the forest precisely and leading Karnel through the fastest way wasn\'t any problem for him. They had to hurry, as the ylian\'s wound was getting worse and worse. Finally they reached the village. Karnel was amazed by the elven architecture of this city. The amazement didn\'t last long though, as he noticed angry looks on villagers\' faces. It was obvious - they didn\'t want to see any humans here. Suddenly one of citizens pulled Draklar away from Karnel.
- \"What is that ylian doing here?\" he asked angry.
- \"He\'s in desperate need of a healer\'s help\"
- \"So? why should we care? You should just leave him where you found him. Bringing one of those dogs to our village. What were you thinking?\"
- \"Look: this guy might die soon and if you\'ll excuse me, I am going to get him some help\"
Draklar pushed the elf away and came back to Karnel.
- \"What was that about?\" - the ylian asked
- \"Nevermind that. Come, you need to see the healer - fast\"
- \"As you say, but those people sure aren\'t happy to see me here\"
Draklar didn\'t answer the comment and just led him towards their destination. Followed by lots of angry looks they finally arrived at the healer\'s house.

Tathar Palant?r heard a knock to the door. He glanced in their direction and slowly stood up. Closing a book he was reading, he moved to the door. When he opened it he noticed two figures in front of him. One was Draklar Tasartir and other... \"Ylian?\" - he asked with disbelief - \"What brings you to this village, sir?\"
- \"I..\" Karnel tried to answer the question, but Draklar interrupted him - \"He\'s here because of his wound. Some creature shoot him in the forest, seems like the arrow was poisoned. I think it\'s very serious.\"
- \"I see... well let me have a look at it\"
It didn\'t take long for Tathar to fully inspect the wound. He looked up at Draklar to announce what he found out. \"Well you were right, it might end very badly. Luckily this poison isn\'t hard to cure. I should be able to take care of the wound pretty quick.\"
Draklar noded with his head
- \"Alright then, I think I\'ll go for a walk around the city. I\'ll be back soon. You\'ll be alright, Karnel?\"
- \"Sure, Drak\" - he answered - \"Have fun\"
- \"I will\" - Draklar smiled and walked out of the house. Not much time passed \'till he got stoped by two dermorians.
- \"Wha? What is it?\" - he asked in surprise.
- \"The elders call you\" - answered one of them.
Draklar had no choice, he couldn\'t do anything but follow them to see the elders.

The elders meeting house was located in center of Pallan?n. No other building was as large as this one. Besides that, it was quite simple structure. Decorated just like any other around, the only thing that was bringing one\'s attention to this building, was its size.
Draklar was standing in the main hall awaiting the elders. In the center there was a round table, surrounded by lots of chairs. The door in front of Draklar opened and five old dermorians came out from room behind them. Those were the oldest elves in the village. They moved slowly to the table and sat on the chairs next to each other. One moment later the one sitting in the center spoke:
- \"You know why you\'re here, right?\"
- \"Is it about Karnel?\"
- \"So that\'s the human\'s name? Indeed, that\'s the reason...\"
- \"I ju..\"
- \"Silence! Elders speak now\" - he interrupted him - \"Do you know what consequences it might have? How do you know he won\'t tell others about our village?\"
- \"I... I don\'t...\"
- \"I thought so... Now what shall we do with you and more important... with that human...\"
- \"Y-you aren\'t going to kill him, are you?\"
- \"No, we wouldn\'t be any better than those dogs if we did that. But something must be done.\"
- \"I don\'t think he could reveal our secret. He seems to be nice person.\"
- \"Is that so... I don\'t think we should base our decision on that, but let us discuss it for a while. We just may take note of that.\"
Draklar noded with his head and elders began to talk. He just stood in one place and watched the elders consulting over the event. He was very nervous and couldn\'t wait untill the elder would speak to him again. Finally, after a long time of waiting, it happened.
- \"We decided what to do. First, we\'ll tell you our decision about you. Considering your helpfulness for other villagers and the fact that you did what you did to save one\'s life - your punishment will be just a few additional nights of guarding the village. Ask Ereinion Telemnar about the details. I understand you know where to find him.\"
- \"Yes, I do\" - he answered. Ereinion was the leader of Pallan?n guards. Draklar was taking trainings from him for many years and not once he had to search whole village in purpose of finding him. Now, Draklar knew exactly where to search for him, during both day and night.
- \"As for the ylian...\" - the elder continued his speech - \"He will be left alone. If what you say is true, he shouldn\'t cause any trouble. And besides that, We don\'t think we should do anything to him. Make sure he knows that he isn\'t allowed to tell anyone about this place. And remember... next time the consequences will be much bigger... You may go now.\"
- \"Thank you.\" -  Draklar answered and after bowing to the elders he left the building. He wasn\'t thinking about returning to healer\'s house yet. He had to think about everything that happened - in peace.

- \"You alright?\" - Draklar was sitting on ground at the village\'s entrance when he heard someone\'s voice behind him. He looked over his shoulder - It was Karnel.
- \"Yeah, i\'m fine. But i think i should be the one asking that\" - he smiled
- \"Well i\'m good as well. I think i\'ll be going now.\"
- \"Do you mind me accompanying you?\"
- \"No, not at all. Actually I\'d feel better if i had some escort.\" - Karnel laughed for a moment.
- \"Very well then... let\'s go\" - Draklar stood up and made sure he took everything. One moment later, while talking, they walked into the darkness of forest.

It wasn\'t evening yet when they got to Karnel\'s camp. It was set at the edge of the forest. A few people were moving around a fire. Suddenly Draklar stopped his companion.
- \"This is where we part\"
- \"You\'re sure you don\'t want to stay for a while?\"
- \"No I\'d better go back now. But remember that you can\'t tell anyone about my village.\"
- \"Sure Draklar, I won\'t tell a thing\"
- \"Thanks. Hey, may i ask where you guys are going now?\"
- \"To the city of Hydlaa. If you\'ll ever come to those regions, make sure to visit me there\"
- \"I doubt I\'ll ever come to those parts, but thanks for the offer anyway. Farewell Karnel. May the leaves of your life tree never turn brown.\"
Karnel smiled as he noded.
- \"Farewell Draklar, it was nice meeting you.\"
Draklar bowed and walked back into the forest. He sighed with relief as everything end up alright. Still, he was thinking about all those nights that he will spend on guarding. Knowing Ereinion, it won\'t be just a \"few\" nights...

That\'s good, great opening in chapter one. :)  However, in the later parts, you might want to put more action during conversations, like \"so-and-so paced nervously\", stuff like that. It makes them more interesting. ;)

Chapter 3:
\"Banished\"

The wind was blowing slightly, swaying upper branches of trees. Green leaves, invited by the wind, were doing their last dance in the air before falling down to the ground. It was a calm evening, just like the rest of the day. Peace and silence were ruling in the Livandriel forest.
Draklar was lying on the grass, gazing at the dark Azure Sun. A sweet scent was surrounding him, making his mind go calm. Nothing was troubling the dermorian... not now. He was in need of rest after this whole day... It all might end up very badly for him. Draklar wasn\'t in a hurry to get back to his village, he prefered to spend some of his time here. He raised his head a bit and looked at a pond. It was calm, just like everything today - \"What\'s happening with this forest?\" - he thought and placed his head back on the ground. The Azure Sun was giving the last of its light. Draklar closed his eyes, complete darkness surrounded him. He wasn\'t feeling anything anymore as his thoughts already flew away.

Draklar opened his eyes, the Azure Sun was already shining brightly. \"I\'ve fallen asleep?\" - he asked while getting up. The dermorian glanced over the whole area - everything was on its place. Draklar had to hurry to the village now, he should have been back a long time ago. Not wasting any more time, he grabbed all of his equipment and started running towards the Pallan?n. Passing one tree after another, suddenly, he noticed a worrisome view above the trees. It was a large cloud of smoke, something was burning in front of him... Draklar started running even faster, he was full of anxiety. Few minutes later his eyes met a view he would prefer never to see... Pallan?n was on fire.
The village turned into a battlefield as forces of men and elves clashed in its center. Some of human warriors were chasing villagers of Pallan?n, while others were keeping dermorian soldiers busy with the battle. One after another buildings were starting to burn and the village was quickly turning into a ruin. Still, it didn\'t stop the dermorians from defending their home. Elven archers were shooting arrows at human warriors, killing one after another. They weren\'t allowing any of them to approach, but still they weren\'t safe themselfs. A band of rogues was sneaking around the streets of Pallan?n. Holding daggers in their hands, they were ready to cut their victims\' throats. Silent hunters were going after the archers, trying to eliminate them as fast as possible. One mistake might end up with lethal results and the mistake was made. One of rogues that tried to backstab an elf wasn\'t careful enough. A crack of a twig under his foot quickly came to elven ears and one second later the rogue was falling to ground with an arrow in his head. It was too late for the rest of the rogues. The archers, warned about the presence of foes, had chosen them as their new targets.
While the archers were busy chasing rogues, Ereinion was fighting the leader of this group. Two heavy armoured warriors were striking steel against steel sending the sound of their fight all across the village. Ereinion\'s foe, equiped with a tower shield was successfully defending from his attacks. Still, strikes of a great sword weren\'t easy things to handle. Ereinion only waited untill his enemy whould lose attention because of loss of energy. The moment had come and dermorian was ready to make his final strike. He turned around while sidestepping the human and with a swing of his sword, he delivered a forceful blow right in the back of his foe. The armour cracked and the ylian\'s body was thrown down to the ground. A moment later with the last of his strength, he managed to stand up and slowly started to walk away from the battlefield. He was reaching the gate of the village, when suddenly shock appeared on his face. His body fell to the ground. There was an arrow in his back, directly in the crack of his armour. Aranel was standing in a distance right behind him. He slowly lowered his longbow and glanced at the corpse. One moment later he went back to battle. Draklar grabbed his broadsword. He had to join the fight.
Not much time passed \'till he got attacked. One of ylians, equiped with a longsword and a shield started charging towards him. Seeing no chance in defending from the attack, he jumped away from warrior\'s path, just in time to dodge the strike. Draklar tried to counter-attack, however his foe managed to block him. Now they were standing face to face, waiting for each other to make a move.
Draklar was the one that attacked first, however the Ylian kept blocking all the attacks without any problems. It didn\'t take long, \'till the human striked the Dermorian\'s left arm. Draklar fell down to ground with his arm bleeding, it seemed like he was doomed. However he was given yet another chance. When Ylian was going to make the final blow, Draklar striked his legs, making his enemy fall next to him. Seconds later Ylian\'s life was finished with one hit in the back.
Draklar started looking over the battlefield. Most of the human warriors were already busy fighting with Pallan?n guards. But there was one that could handle many warriors at once. In the middle of the village there was fighting a Xacha mage. By summoning many wild animals he was able to keep all the warriors away. Draklar took him for his next target. He started running towards the mage, when suddenly one of wild dogs attacked him. It didn\'t take long, just one hit in the head put the dog to silence. The dermorian was now ready to attack the Xacha. Unfortunately his enemy spotted him and when Draklar was close enough, the mage casted one more spell. The young elf\'s body suddenly got surrounded by raging flames. The fire started to burn his body and great pain was disalowing him to move. Yet his will was stronger and with the last of his strength, he attacked his foe. The xacha\'s face got sliced and blood started running down. With no life left he fell down to the ground. Draklar only glanced at mage\'s corpse and seconds later he was lying on ground, trying to regain his lost strength.
After the humans were forced to retreat, Draklar was called by the elders once again. There he was told everything about what happened in the village. The Ylian he saved earlier turned out to be a member of a rogue band. After Draklar led him into village, they had no problems finding it once again. His body wasn\'t found on battlefield however, which meant that he was still alive. Most of Pallan?n villagers were dead, along with Draklar\'s parents. The elders made the decision. Draklar got banished.
He only thought about revenge on the Ylian, he had to go to Hydlaa, were the human said he lives. Draklar only once glanced at the burnt village and started his journey for revenge. The forest wasn\'t calm anymore, Draklar felt he wasn\'t welcome here. He started moving faster, but still that didn\'t help him to avoid trouble. On his way there was standing a wild boar. It was obvious that it was about to attack. Draklar got his sword ready and soon after the boar attacked, it was laid to rest. Draklar understood it. He was not only banished from the village, but from the forest as well. He didn\'t encounter any more troubles on his journey. Soon he got to the gates of Hydlaa. Astonished by the enormous city, he got to the plaza of the city. Now he was thinking about only one thing: to complete his quest for revenge.

No denying talent thats for sure :) There is big money in writing stories, should maybe look into it! It doesn\'t matter if you can\'t edit or structure that great, what do you think a editor is for ;)
