Game Engine Programming
« on: December 10, 2003, 06:30:09 am »
People who want to learn about how CS works and all the stuff we have to build in PS (i.e. why it takes years even for the pros to make games), please read this set of articles:

Very Long but Cool Set of Articles

It is about 50 (yes 50) pages which explains 3d engines and game engines in a lot of detail, but fairly non-technical.  Maybe some of you who want to learn about game coding will read it and learn.

I\'m very interested in games, but being on the more arty site of things I don\'t know to much about programming so maybe this will shead some light on the matter thanks veng.

In the context Vengeance was using, CS == Crystal Space.

Nice article.  It\'s overly simplistic, but it\'s meant to be :)  Developers will know all that stuff already.  But it\'s a nice overview for people just starting or who just want to see what programming a 3D engine is all about.

Tip:  Nothing will get me to stop reading an article faster than having to load a new page every three paragraphs.  That drives me insane.  Especially on a site (like ExtremeTech\'s) that reloads the *entire page* every time.  Fortunately, they\'ve supplied a \"print\" button near the table of contents which not only gives you a nice format for printing, but actually shows the entire article in one long page, which I find *much* easier reading :)

yeh I agree with RonHiler go to the print link on the site if you want to read it without having to reload a page every 2mins.

I have read all 50 pages now  :D
I especially like that they explained what Eagle was, I have always been wondering that.

Of course they do, but I think they\'re only interested in people with lots of talent for those other areas. What with the game engine constantly improving, and the graphics, models, animations etc getting better in PS, they will be looking for talented people who can produce high quality work within set deadlines.
